Got back home from San Diego Thursday night. It was wonderful to be with my daughter, but 2 weeks is a long time to be away from home. My hubby and dog and I were group hugging.

I was shocked to see that I didn't really gain much at all. Less than a pound. We ate out a lot, but I did try to stay away from too much bread and sweet stuff. I didn't exercise in SD as much as I have been at home, but we did do some nice walks here and there -- at Torrey Pines, Balboa Park, the wildlife park, and Mission Valley mall (ha). It's so beautiful in SD and people in general are really pleasant. I'm also impressed by how courteous the drivers are in Cali. So much better than here in Ala., where everyone thinks they're in a NASCAR race to beat you.

I spent a lot more time holed up in my hotel room working than I should have and watched a lot of CNN to follow the Japan disaster. My family members there are far from the worst-hit areas, but there are concerns about food shortages. All we can do to help is donate money to charity. You just feel so helpless and heartbroken.

Yesterday, I had to release my pent-up energy for exercise so I took my dog for his walk. We went up the steepest road in our neighborhood and it was almost easy to do. I expected to be out of shape and winded from my 2-wk hiatus, but it wasn't bad at all. Towards the the end of our walk, I even broke into a run. It felt incredible.

Glad your family is all right. I've done that walk at Torrey Pines, down to the beach and back up. It brings back memories.
