Divided By Zero's Journal, 11 May 2009

I ran 7 miles and broke my foot. Alright... I'm lying.

I was good. I didn't run on the injured foot THIS week. 5 days from now... all bets are off.

I did however plant a tree (my mom wanted one for Mother's Day). Which makes me even more of a hippie than normal.

I lost a little bit of weight, and I'm not really sure how. I guess I should just be thankful. My diet this week consisted of restaurant food and ice cream sammiches (yes, that IS the correct spelling). They were diet ice cream sammiches, but still...

My grandma wanted to go to a new hole-in-the-wall country cafe near where she lives in the boonies, so my mom, aunt, and I went to lunch with her. That was the first time in two years of being a crazy vegetarian that I ate at a place that didn't have a vegetarian entree. I ended up with fries and lemon icebox pie for lunch. That's nutritious, right? I mean, lemons have vitamins, so lemon pie is probably good for you. They put berries on top of it too, so it was probably super healthy.

Maybe we should have eaten at this place... (youtube link)

I saw the first line, and gasped outloud. lol, nice trick! I am glad you had a good mothers day, even if the lunch you ate was borderline! :) I'm sure your Grandma was super happy to dine with you.

Aaaaaand... that was the first time she has seen me since I've lost a lot of weight. She was... a little surprised.

Nice! I bet she was very happy for you!

Haha... she didn't say anything about it to me, but when she was driving back home with my aunt (who works with me) she said, "Did you see him? He looks as scrawny as he did when he was little. He has his babyface again." LOL

:) That must have felt good to hear! Babyface, huh? lol. It's funny how we both comment on each other journals at the same time. Too bad fs doesn't have chat like fb! lol

Mmm... Ice cream sammiches.... pie.... and you still lost a little? You suck. I'm jealous. I'm curious, and forgive me if you've covered this before, but what made you decide to eat vegetarian?

Hmmm... I don't know if I've discussed it before on here. I donate blood often and the place I go to does a free mini physical for you including a cholesterol check. Well, my result came back at 290 (normal is under 180). Yikes! It was actually just kind of perfect timing that made me a vegetarian. At the time I was reading a lot of Buddhist and Taoist philosophy and vegetarianism was fresh in my mind. I read up on it and found that it was effective in lowering cholesterol (because cholesterol is only found in animal based foods). I phased out one thing at a time. Beef on week, chicken the next, etc. until I was a vegetarian. When I started I didn't think I would be a vegetarian forever. I figured I would drop my numbers, get healthy, and ease back into a more normal sensible diet. Well, in my research I dug a little too deep and found out some things that I couldn't quite unlearn. And while I became a vegetarian for health and not ethical reasons, the ethical reasons factor into why I stay a vegetarian. It's kind of hard to talk about that too much without offending people, so I usually don't. I don't believe that eating meat is inherently wrong, I just don't think it's for me. I would recommend the Joaquin Phoenix (he's a vegan) narrated film "Earthlings" (it's on dvd and on *cough* google video), but with a warning... Don't watch it if you enjoy burgers. It is a powerful movie and has the tendency to change people. Alec Baldwin (a vegetarian) narrated a film for PETA, but it's much more graphic and I hate PETA anyway so I don't usually recommend that people watch that right off the bat. I did try veganism for two months, but it wasn't for me. I think I've been a vegetarian for about 2 years now. I'm sort of a weird vegetarian in that I hate PETA (with a passion), and I support hunters. If you (or anyone) has any questions about vegetarianism, feel free to ask (either on here or PM).

Hey! Welcome back Selina (it's going to take me awhile to stop thinking Pinkest Princess). I messed up my Achilles tendon during a run. A few too many miles in one week for me. I'm not supposed to run again for two weeks, but I love running and it's driving me insane.

ah you can still call me pinkest princess if you like haha i use it everywhere else on the tinternt(yes that is the correct spelling!) ah that sucks ive been starting to jog recently and i am really enjoying it although i think i've hurt my ankle cus im getting a lot of pain on it! im definitly back now though i have missed my FS buddies! and i agree with lgatzke there should be some sort of FS chat :P and PS wooo for vegetarianism!

Hmm. Interesting. A lot of vegetarians I know and my friend who is crazy into animal rights HATE PETA. I don't blame you guys... I mean really... who wants to call fish sea kittens? That does NOT make them cute. Unless they're Nemo. Nemo is cute.... Haha. I don't get offended from people voicing their opinions and points of views. I think it's stupid when people do, everyone is entitled to their own. Reminds me of a quote... "opinions are like assholes, everyone has one and they all STINK." Hahahaha... Anyway, kudos to you for an amazing lifestyle change and taking hold of your health, even if it did turn you into a hippy. ;) I could probably give up beef and poultry... but I don't think I could give up fish. I seriously love sushi way too much. So much that I prefer raw fish to cooked fish.

staladesiree maybe you coould become a pescatarian? someone who is almost a veggie but eats fish :)
12 May 09 by member: SelinaMinus60
That's a fine suggestion. But what about the sea kittens? Lol... Sorry, I just find that too ridiculous not to make jokes about.
12 May 09 by member: Starladesiree

OH GAWD! Don't remind me about the sea kittens! (*PETA rage increases 200%*) Or the World of Warcraft protests... or the "Your Mom is a Murderer" comic books... or their Holocaust trivializations... or... AAAAAHHH!!!

I go to lunch and I see that I've missed out on a great conversation! Ugh! Work is consistently getting in the way of my fs time! Great background, Divided! Thanks for sharing. What an interesting journey you have been though! I want to seek out these ice cream sammich thingys-- what a sweet name!
