I went to an ice cream social today. It was an event at school during the work day. And really........ I wasn't tempted. I had a cup of water and a few walnut halves from the topping bar. My big salad at lunch with salami had filled me up just fine. Someone asked me if I'd have a sundae, but I just said matter of factly, "I don't eat sugar." I was a little surprised that I didn't feel deprived. There was a woman there who recently had gastric bypass surgery. I whispered to her, " There's nothing here for us." She nodded, and we gave each other a knowing and a little bit proud look.

This was at a girls' program for court-involved youth (all the girls have social/emotional problems). They served pizza, salad soda for lunch followed by a short program and then an all out sundae bar. I'd be in a carb coma if I ate what everyone else ate. All the girls are overweight. It seems to me that no-one is doing them a favor feeding them all that carbage. It makes me sad to see it, but if I bring it up, the program treats me like a weird party pooper. Sigh! By the time we were back in class they were all bickering and even the staff (who had eaten all that sugar, too) were cranky and short. I was glad to leave today!

I'm posting a picture of one of my "inside" gardens - from last year.

Good for you, Erika! I SO wish the word about the hazards of sugar would get out faster! I'm happy to say that the gal at work who is so massively in need of keto has started to look into it. She's still resisting making the change, but is starting to acknowledge her emotional eating patterns. She's seen the changes in me, and is becoming a believer, though, so one day, I think she will take the plunge. What a beautiful garden you and the 'kids' created!
