Has anybody set their RDI lower after losing weight? My new one is 1400 but this is too low for me. I manage 1 or 2 low days a week but if I did it every day, my energy levels would be low and I'd feel hungry all the time. I have a busy job and am on my feet all day. I am sticking to 1500.

I changed mine after about 15-20 lbs but as I have a lot to loose it's still quite high at 1900 I generally keep to 1500 on average. I'd rather loose more slowly and not feel deprived or lacking in energy...you do what's right for you...I'd be doing the same as you.

I agree with Di, don't go hungry, it'll end with bingeing. You are doing just fine!:-)

I tend to keep mine about 350 lower then the recommended from this site and recalculate it about every 10 lbs or so and then subtract 350 to set the new one. I then eat about 80% to feel not hungry.

You are right about the risk of binging. That's why I never stuck with any diets in the past, I was always hungry. I am very conscious of it now and don't allow myself to go hungry. The problem is logging activity. I work up to 12 hours and do a lot of standing and short walks. I guess this burns at least 300 cals. As long as I am losing, I will stick with 1500.

Hobo1219...your RDI is probably higher than mine. Initially it was easy to follow 1700 or so but as my RDI has gone down, I really struggle on anything below 1500. I am very active and so far I am doing well. For me, the danger of going too low is binging when hunger overcomes me.

I think it depends more on how much exercise you are getting in. 1500 may be fine as long as you do not feel weak after a workout. If you do then it may mean your body needs more. I may lower my RDI when I scale back my workouts. For now I think I have mine set a little hight b/c I try to workout pretty often. Hope that helps. Keep up the great work. Oh, by the way, how is the prep work for the promotion comeing along? When do you find out?

I set mine based mine, on what my body composition scale says is my BMR..... However, I think you should never feel really hungry - this is a recipe for "bingeing". I almost never feel hungry now - I usually snack more first thing in the morning and just adjust my food, for the rest of the day.

Trublu, the interview is next Thursday. One more week of taking work home and worry a lot. I'm glad when it's over. Luckily it hasn't affected my diet only exercising has gone out of the window.

I have reset mine a couple of times after I lost some weight but the last time I reset my RDI I felt that it was too low. I kept going over so I reset it myself to a higher number. I always eat a few hundred less than the RDI but now I don't have to see that annoying orange box.
