Yesterday I officially found out I am a diabetic. My world has come crashing down around me. I feel alone in all of this. My doctor put me one a 100g of carb/2000 calorie diet. No artificial sweetener. I mean... is it really true that things like splenda, and equal can spike your blood glucose/sugar levels? This freaking sucks.

You're right..it does kinda suck. I was dxd type 2 over a year ago. My dr put me on metformin 500, 2xdaily. With that and lowering my carbs down I'm doing really well. And yes, artificial sweeteners can raise blood sugar for some people. It bothers my blood sugar, though since I've lost a lot of weight I can indulge once in a while with no serious problems now. You're not alone - great support here!

Hey there. I'm headed on that path, too (if not already there). A few years ago, I had a lot of tests done to see what was up with my body and weight gain. At that time I was diagnosed as being insulin resistant, which is kind of similar to being diabetic. My trick is to have lots and lots of protein -- It still breaks down in to glucose, but takes a lot longer so I don't get the dramatic spikes and lows... Good luck with everything...
