2 Big 2 Fail's Journal, 20 February 2014

Found myself really looking for carbs this afternoon. My name is Steve and I'm a carb junky! I'll eat carbs until I put myself into a coma!

I tried the old drink a bottle of cold water. Well that was good for about 10 minutes but I was breaking down for some potato chips. Lucky for me I was short change to buy the expensive bag of chips in the vending machine so I opted out for the 30 cent granola bar stashed in our Engineering Lab cabinet where we pitch in for treats bought at SAMs. Only 100 calories but satisfying.

It seems like dieting is all about resisting bad choices and finding healthier substitutions and controlling serving sizes. I'm learning to make better choices and limiting bad choices to smaller servings so in the end I will lose the weight. It will happen!

This weekend I'll probably go looking for a Steak and a Baked Potato with butter and sour cream and a side of vegetables. I'll feel good about it because I stopped myself many many times over this week from freaking out and chowing down on something absolutely awful and loaded with low nutrition calories.

I know that feel! I'm totally a chips' lover and that has been what makes me struggle the most. But you know what? I learnt to do microwave potatoes. Do you know the spiro chips? it is a whole potato made in the microwave or the oven, done until it gets crispy; and then you can add a bit of lemon and hot sauce (at least that's how I eat them). Very tasty, no oil or anything added, and healthier than the chips. Keep it into consideration if you get desperate again (but don't make it a habit ;) ).

I'll have to look it up. I was visiting a friend last weekend and he was making up some twice baked potatoes. I'll have to stop myself from adding all of the fattening ingredients...sour cream..cheese and bacon.

I use me woodstove for making my baked potatoes. It's on all day everyday anyway. Chick has a good idea there. Find something that you can use instead of the butter and sour cream. If you can't, at least drop either the butter or the sour cream. And you can't double up on the one you keep, either.
