BuffyBear's Journal, 29 September 2013

To make a long story short - Thursday, Friday and Saturday were chaotic days - totally off schedule. Did not "fall off the wagon" but am sure carb/cal totals were way over. Very lucky I did not gain any weight back.

Today I will be tracking everything BEFORE I eat it!

PS - Because of Mom2Boxer's journal, I checked the calorie content of the 4 oz ground turkey I ate yesterday. One of FS choices had listed it at 266 calories. This seemed high so I Googled it and found that regular ground turkey should only be 193 calories. I have already gone back and changed it - from a FS listing for 193 calories.

The morale of this story is if a nutritional value doesn't seem right - go check it out. Since I practically live on turkey burgers, I was cheating myself out of 73 calories every time I ate one!

Thanks again Sandy!

I am trying to do the same thing, Buff. I think you did well to maintain.

Thanks Mom! Think it helps that on days like these I make my "cheats" out of healthy food. For example, for lunch on Thursday I had peanut butter spread on a banana. Now I know the banana has a high GI ranking, but must be I needed the potassium - LOL.

Bren - Your encouragement is very much appreciated. Managing eating when "plans go awry" seems to be hard on us all. I am trying to learn to make better choices from what is available.

Chaos can certainly play havoc with weight loss -- good for you for staying your course & doing the best you could... obviously quite well with no gain! xoxox

Ruth - Thank you - I wasn't going to let this sidetrack me permanently.

I always log my food before I eat it although I'm really not hungry so I'm forcing myself to eat before I slip into starvation mode. Must be all the coconut oil making me feel full as well as the other fats. Have you tried ground chicken? I like the turkey but find it to be a bit dry but the ground chicken is really yummy.

Rainshine - What a great habit to have! And thanks for the tip - I will have to give the ground chicken another try.

Is your aim low carb, low fat, or low calorie? I lose more weight on high fat and super low carb and it keeps me full. Are you a chocolate lover? I'm not, but I still make chocolate bark for those times when I need the extra fat boost because my fat/protein/carb ratio is down. It's only coconut oil, unsweetened chocolate, and a little stevia or other sweetener to taste. I added raw peanut butter and raw cocoa butter last time. May not be the absolute best chocolate in the world but it helps the sweet cravings. Oh, I never realized how much we underestimate portion size until I started weighing my food. Boy, was that a rude awakening for me. I just found out 4 buffalo wings (big ones) were 9.4 oz. which is 3 serving sizes. No wonder I had trouble losing weight before.

Rainshine - My present experiment involves a maximum 30 net carbs/1225 cals per day, plus any healthy fat that will fit. BTW - Your chocolates sound heavenly!

BB - Good for you. It is tough to stay on the straight and narrow when the schedule gets thrown off. I verify everything on several sites. This is one that I use http://ndb.nal.usda.gov/ndb/search/list.
