cocobutt's Journal, 18 March 2013

Yesterday my parents and my Japanese aunts came over for dinner. This is the first time we've hosted a dinner at our new home. Despite the language barrier, we all had a wonderful time. Mr Coco made his signature dish of lasagne and panna cotta, and Aunt S liked it so much, she had seconds. She must have a hollow leg because she is tiny. They all got a kick out of our dog, who has been doing a lot better with company in the house. He used to go wild.

Having her sisters for this month-long visit has been one of the best things to happen to mom. It has been good for dad too, to see mom so happy. The sad thing is, I can also see how lonely she has been. I've been wondering what it would be like to live in Japan. When I was young enough to pull up stakes easily, I never even considered it as a possibility. It was too expensive, too far. My daughter actually spent a semester in Okinawa. And now my niece will be doing the same thing. It's routine. The horrible exchange rate and mom's health issues are making a trip to Japan less likely. But I would still like to go one day.

I've not been disciplined in my eating habits lately. And have not been walking. We've just been too busy with work and prepping the house for guests. Maybe things will improve in April.
