kingkeld's Journal, 10 December 2012

Good morning!

I'm essentially weight stabile since yesterday. If we go into details, I'm up 100 grams, having the scale shifting between 92.1 and 92.2 kgs. No biggie.

Usually, I spend two days or so coming down after Indulgence Day, and I am sure with my new approach this is in no way different. So I am more than happy with a 92.2 weigh-in.

Today is "fasting day". This means no more than 600 calories. Dinner will be pork chops and cabbage, just like last Thursday. It's snowy and winter now, and that's like the perfect winter meal for us. We love it.

I did go over a little bit on my calories yesterday - about 100. Nothing I'm gonna worry a lot about. The most important thing yesterday was that I stopped eating after dinner - and I kept that. This kicks me into fasting mode from that time, and it's counting approx 24 hours from then.

From what I read, there are two different approaches to the fasting.

1. Don't eat at all for 24 hours - from dinner to dinner, breakfast to breakfast, lunch to lunch, whichever you prefer. Then use the 600 calories through the rest of the day as you see fit.

2. Stop eating after dinner the night before. Consume 600 (or 4-500 for the ladies) throught your fasting day, as you see fit.

Since I'm much more all or nothing, I think I wouldn't like the nibbling through the day on a tiny budget. I think I would feel much more restrained by it, than by simply skipping breakfast and lunch.

I really want to find a different word to use instead of "fasting". I'm NOT fasting, I'm eating very low calories through the day, as I see fit. Now, that's the opposite of Indulgence Day? I hope to find a word that doesn't sound restrictive like "fasting". To me, "Fasting"day sounds like "Beat yourself over the fingers with a hammer"-day and that is not good. lol.

Again, today, I have already skipped breakfast. I was fine with it. I think it comes with the mindset. Once you have accepted that you're not gonna eat that meal, it becomes a lot easier to do. It would be different if you were looking forward to the meal and then had it taken away.

So, I have not prepared lunch. Obviously. I have not prepared snacks. Obviously. I will, however, have tons of water, coffee and tea.

Today, I am taking a course in the morning. You guys know how much I like taking courses, learn new things. And you also know how much I hate the breakfasts and lunches there. It's impossible to count anything, and it just makes my calorie counting go to hell.

So, I figured this would be perfect. How to avoid those calorie counting trouble? Well, don't eat! :) This is how I'm gonna do it today. Not eating. That'll work.

Of course, the food is always good, so it may take a tiny bit extra determination, but I am very confident that I'm gonna be back here tomorrow and tell you guys that I did good.

I will do little updates through the comments of this journal through the day. Feel free to write a few encouraging words. I might need them. lol.

Today, I'm thankful for:

Cleansing is a nice word, that's what I use. However my solution is more juice based, just like my cocktails!

What about "Low Calories" day? When you'll see the good food at the course, think about the surgery on February. I am sure you are gonna make it!

UPDATE: My course went without a hitch. And yes, as I feared they pulled out ALL the yum stuff! I simply bowed out and went for a walk in the snow instead. It was a beautiful walk, and I wasn't even cold. It's not 1:30 PM, and I have absolutely no hunger. I felt like a little something, so I bought a Pepsi Max. I know some people talk about diet soda promoting hunger, but it's not something I personally experience, and I haven't today either. Going another 3½ - 4 hours until dinner should be absolutely no problemo. :) Life is still good. And yes - I like the "low calorie day" term, Lizzie, in lack of a better one, but coming from the point of view that it's hard to go low cal, I'd like something that didn't emhazise on that. Maybe "high deficit day"? lol.

Great Keld!!! I'm doing the same today. I've decided to split my calories between breakfast and dinner ... we'll see how that works. I'm usually pretty distracted at work so it shouldn't be too tough. I REALLY enjoyed the video. It was very interesting. Trying to get my DH interested too but we'll see. He's struggling figuring out how to manage his cancer diagnosis, as am I. Keep up the good work. You can do this!!! Restricted Calorie Day? Non-Indulgence Day? It really is the exact opposite of an Indulgence Day. Rock My Body into Health and Longevity Day?

All good suggestions, Carol. :) I'm glad you were moved by the documentary. I know WE were.

UPDATE: It's 4 Pm. I'm home from work. No actual hunger, just that little tiny pinch as I experienced last week too. It's really no biggie. So I can easily wait another hour or two for lunch, when La Familia is ready. :)

Next step: 30 minutes on the stationary bike to kill time, and burn calories. :)

Go Keld!!!

Done with the bike. :) And at 5:20 PM, no dinner yet. Probably within the next 30 minutes - food is cooking. Honestly, if we were to wait another hour or two, I'd be more than fine with it. :)

Cool! :) If any of you guys see it, would you do a screen copy for me? :)

In other news - I had dinner. It was nice. A whopping 260 grams of food, about 265 calories. LOL. That's NOTHING. I weighed myself as I took a shower after biking. I was at 90.7 kgs. Which means that I am around 91 kgs now. I traditionally drop about a kilo over night, which means that I COULD be in the 89's tomorrow morning. Let's work on that! :)

UPDATE: So, bottom line for today - 265 calories. Easily below the 600 I'm allowed, just like I did Thursday. No trouble to do it at all. I really hope it will be this easy every time, but then - We all know that it won't. I just home that most days will be like this one. The beauty of my new system - if it works - is that I want to be able to switch days. I want to be able to move one day to another, if it is not accomplishable on a particular day. That way we can stick to our calories, reap the benefits of better health and weight loss all in one easy package. Life is good indeed! See you tomorrow - hopefully for a <90 kg weigh-in.

hi. you were looking for a word to describe your low-calorie days, not exactly "fasting" & opposite in meaning to "indulgence". how about "restraint"? to me, that word is one with positive connotations- i think well of people who know when to exercise restraint.
