BadAndee's Journal, 05 April 2008

After much time, effort and consideration about my diet woes, (many of which I have not talked too much about on here, except for the dreaded PLATEAU) I'm about to embark on a new journey, regarding my diet.

I don't want to ramble too much about mundane details since it can be quite boring, BUT I started the Atkins diet yesterday.

For those of you who may wonder WHY; I spent hours studying the food choices I have made during this past month (Finally, there is a benefit to tedious journaling! LOL), and found that I mostly consume carbohydrates. At first, that wasn't such a shocker to me because I am a vegetarian, truly. No eggs, dairy OR meat. This has never worked against me like it has this past year, while trying to lose the extra pounds that have creped up on me!

So, I began to study hyperinsulinism, and it's affect on the body...and pieces of the puzzle began to fit together and resemble ME!

I usually run about 6 miles a day on average, but lately have increased it to 9 miles. I have observed that I am most comfortable and very satisfied consuming approxamently 1100 caloris a day, give or take a few.

My dietary symptoms started with peanut butter, which became a huge problem for me, and even though I've come to curse it's existance, I am now thankful for it, because it has been a key instrument in helping me realize what my dietary problems have been!

While observing my behavioral pattern, from eating, sleeping, resting, working out, feelings of hunger (the list is pretty long) another picture started to become clear to me, that I could possibly be addicted to carbohydrates, which were no longer nourishing me, but causing me to feel sick in many different ways, having a negative affect on me.

Have I bored you all to tears now?! (good thing there's a such thing as speed-reading! LOL) Get to the good parts, Andee....

I think it's pretty fair to say that I'm going through detox right now, because I am SICK! My head feels like it's about to pop off, and I'm moving like a snail today. I didn't go to work yesterday OR today, and I'm thinking about taking off tomorrow as well! I'm on day 2 of Atkins, going through detox pretty hard and heavy right now, (it feels like I should go to the hospital because it's a life-threatening case of the flu! LOL) I'm also suspicious that yeast (which can rage adversely rampant in all of us without us knowing it) is YET ANOTHER problem, and to tell you the truth, i'm pretty anxious to step on the scale (but I won't till Monday) because I feel thinner already!

I'll keep you all posted in regard to my daily recovery, and progress. I'm my own human experiment!! Let the games begin!!

hugs to you all,
a very limp and weak Andee,
over and out!

wow, that's a big change! but I can relate. I was vegan for 7 years (veg for 5 before that) before it all of s sudden didn't seem to work for me anymore and it helped to start eating eggs and dairy and fish to up my protein levels. then I ate less and had more energy and better moods. best of luck on this turn in your journey, Andee. :)

*waving* hi ya... as a recycled akins type person, I can only say that first time round it really did work so well for me, lost the lbs, felt great, and enjoyed the comments about looking fit and trim etc... so it does work.. smiles.. (unless you're a muck savage like me who gives in at the first sign of mistletoe!!!). The thing that I did NOT have then (or did not use!!) was a support group....*looks around* like this one... and can I add a voice to the chorus of good wishes for success and an end to the misery... mind you... running 9 miles a day!! I ask ya - what do ya expect, merciful hour am not sure if I can even daydream running that far! (any more than my 4 miles walking per day would be enough to leave me like a cardio disaster) take care of yourself 'n' "stay between the ditches".

You don't bore me at all Andee. I can assure you once you've detoxed you will feel much better and lighter. Drink lots of water, and add some lemon to help your liver cleanse out the toxins. There is light at the end of the tunnel. The sick feeling is an assurance that you were either very addicted to carbs or you have a candida (yeast issue), or both. Hang in there.

Aw, I hope you will be feeling better soon... it's amazing how much of an effect too many carbs can have on us and I hope your change of eating will work for you. Wow, 9 miles running.... that's an awesome amount per day! You just keep up the great work there and take care of yourself won't you. ;o)

Hey there!! Wow! What and interesting and practical approach you are taking. Probably we should all do that - sit down and really evaluate what's working, what's not, where to tweak things. I can't imagine what a change it will be for you to go from Vegan back to omnivore. The only thing with Atkins is to watch the cholesterol my sister lost a ton of weight but her cholesterol was through the roof. Best of luck (can i call you BadA too? i like that! LOL!)
