Divided By Zero's Journal, 06 May 2010

I finished reading the Spike Diet book. I'm tempted to give a review now, but I need to follow the plan for a while before I can really give you good feedback. I'll try to review it in about two weeks.

Today was my first full day following it. It's a little different than what I'm used to, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I haven't been recording my weight, but over the last week it's been 203 so I'll use that as a starting point. I've been doing the workouts that the author sent me, so that will hopefully help my results.

Speaking of workouts, I love going to the gym now. I go in the mornings so I don't have to deal with crowds, and I don't have to worry about rushing in after work to squeeze in a session. The drawback is that I have to go to sleep early (usually 9 or 10PM). I don't mind at all, because I'm a 'morning person' anyway, but I'm fairly sure my girlfriend doesn't appreciate that I'm spending so much time at the gym, and that I'm going to sleep so early. I have to get back on track though. I've slipped too far already and this is too important to me.

Hey, I'm glad to hear you're back on track. I'll be interested to see how it goes. Oh, and when I was younger I had the same problem with a girlfriend who felt I was spending too much time at the gym. The solution, which may or may not work, was to set aside at least 60 minutes a night after dinner for her. Whatever she wanted. Granted, I was doing that in any case, but to know that the time was her time somehow made it more acceptable for her. C'est la vie!

Can you get her to go to the gym with you? I go with my boyfriend and it has definitely brought us closer and we both get to feel good about the improvements we've made. We don't usually work out together even though we go together, but occasionally do. Sometimes I do his weight lifting with him and sometimes he does some cardio with me. We keep each other going. And we reconnect at the end and he tells me how much he benched and I tell him how far I ran and we both congratulate each other and then... Well, you get the picture. It's good for our relationship, no doubt.

In a perfect world, I would do both of those things. Unfortunately we live about 30 miles apart, and have very different schedules. I'm an early bird 9to5'er, and she's a night owl with a retail job that has shifting hours (anywhere from 8AM to 12:30AM). Monday nights (we volunteer together at a Library) and weekends tend to be the only time when we have any real time together, and sometimes that doesn't even work too well if she has to work on the weekend or I have a race/long run. I wish I could move closer to her, because her area is so much nicer than mine anyway, but I just don't have the means to do it right now.
