I am reluctantly trying an experiment today by exercising more lightly than usual (ie bike or walk vs run). Some time ago my doctor diagnosed me with adrenal fatigue syndrome, and while he did not warn me not to exercise too heavily, everything I’ve read about adrenal fatigue syndrome says not to do so. Meanwhile, my fiancé, a holistic physician himself, keeps saying that I seem to use up all my energy on running and then crash the rest of the day - in other words that it seems to make my adrenal fatigue worse and hinder recovery. Since I love running and I love the results I have resisted this experiment and felt like I am “getting away” with running as long as I don’t ask my doctor about it lol. Let’s see how I feel today on lighter cardio. I hate to lose the athletic progress I’ve made. It’s not fast (and not nearly as fast as my younger years), but this year I’ve gone from about a 16min/mile pace to an almost 11min/mile pace and I don’t want to go backward (in speed or weight loss). I also don’t want to sacrifice my health though. I would like to talk to my own doctor about it now that my fiancé has made his point so well but I won’t see him for a while.
