EyesoftheBlueDog's Journal, 10 December 2021

My body has officially switched to a starvation mode, which is not great. How do I know? My guts have stopped working two weeks ago. I'm assuming I'll need to bump my calories up? I drink at least 64 oz of pure water per day and monitor my fiber to make sure I have at least 20 grams a day(usually more), but at 1000 cal a day I'm guessing I'm just not consuming enough... I have also been exercising every other day for the past few weeks. I realize now that I probably don't eat enough, but that's a radical decision on the part of my body.

It is imperative to consult a doctor.

I’m struggling with the same problem. I hope you find good support. I have a couple of friends here on this site who have been helping me, but usually people’s reactions are negative and just plain insensitive, and I don’t feel safe disclosing my real issue anymore.

Thank you, Tamara! It's not bad and it's something I can easily manage at home without bringing in professionals.))) I'm feeling well. I'm just frustrated about it. All the doctor will do is prescribe laxatives, which I can do on my own.

Oh no, yfritz! That explains why you are not posting as much. I'm sorry you are being troubled by this. People can be quite insensitive without being aware of it (or on purpose sometimes). Thank you for responding! I was quite frustrated about it because I have not seen a lot of people post about this issue, so it feels like I'm the only one. It's reassuring to know I'm not alone.

Thank you for sharing your situation too. I wish you the best outcome.

So from what I've read during my weightloss this would be called a plateau and it's normal. It happened to me twice while I was losing and I found it easiest to reverse diet back up to maintenance calories and take a break. Then when I dropped my calories again the weight kept coming off like normal. I don't know how tall you are but unless you're very petit 1000 is VERY low and not usually recommended. You could have at least a few hundred more and add some more activity in your day and it might be more sustainable. Good luck! You'll get past this.

Plateau or BM?? My dietician gave me a meal plan (not free-visit was $75) of 1000 cals and 120 carbs a day. I started having issues with my diabetes. Diabetes Dr was very displeased with my meal plan and told me to bump it up to 1200 to1400 and walk more (can't exercise. My digestion has improved greatly and have daily BMs. Inquire with Kenna Morton, she is great on these issues.

Haha, sorry bdixon! Plateau is not what I meant. I was too illusive taking about BMs. I am pretty small though, 5,3, and I am not by any means big boned, so I was pretty certain 1000 cal should be good. I was on it for a while and a lot of people on this app are... It's possible my body got tied of it all. Thank you for responding! Love looking at your meals and your maintenance success.

The same thing happens to me when I eat below 1200.

Thank you, Agnes. I have not had daily BMs since the age of 2, so that's a tough goal to achieve. With my slow metabolism - three times a week is a success, but I'm not even getting that... I am on a low carb diet since August.... but this is new. It started at the same time I started going to the gym, which is extremely counterintuitive. I think my body decided that since I'm not eating and running all the time - the war has started and it needs to conserve resources to the max. Ohhhh... ancestral programming.

Thank you, keepgoing! I'm starting to think this is a pretty good sign I'm not eating enough.

Sooo... My conclusion to this is as follows: I'll bump my calories to 1100 this week and to 1200 next week, to try that reverse dieting bdixon is talking about.....and I'll try not to cry if I gain weight... Thank you, everyone!

I ran into the same problem. I was eating around 1200 calories to maintain for about 7 years. I slowly bumped it up and now 1500-1600 is maintenance. You’ve got this.

Sorry to keep bothering you Eyes🥲 I may have misunderstood you, my problem is trouble eating. On some days, the sight of food literally makes me sick, and going to grocery stores is a challenge. Do you have the same issue? If so, what seems to help? It’s been difficult and my weight went below 100 lbs at some point… not intentional.

Yfritz my Grandma has this issue and I had it in the past when I was much younger. I make her a bulking shake and she sips it throughout the day. Taking a B12 supplement helped her for a while as well (she was suddenly eating everything she could get her hands on which was pretty funny). Also the old just... Fight past it. It's not easy. When she does eat I'll encourage her to have a few extra bites as well. She's 105-106 now and we're shooting for 107 by Christmas. It's hard because of she gets sick at all 5 lbs comes off like nothing but she's been doing a lot better with the shakes. Shake: Bulking powder, banana, strawberry, honey, whole milk. Approx 600 calories.

bdixon, thanks!! I completely stopped looking at macros, and now choosing to focus on vitamins, minerals, fibers, lytes. Muesli and oatmilk helped me significantly. Unfortunately I can’t do shakes and smoothies. I go to your page to get meal ideas, because I just love your meals. Maybe your grandma should start eating in bed😂 (Sorry for hijacking your post, Eyes🙏🕊)

Lol, she does so it must be a genetic trait 😂 she doesn't usually but I think since I've been here longer than the normal visit she's being less proper. If you're following my example lately I've just been putting butter on everything. Way more oil in my roasted vegetables as well. Those liquid fat calories really add up and help if just getting the amount of food you need in is hard. I don't post pictures but I've been snacking a lot more, too. Cheese is my friend.

No worries, yfritz! I do not have that problem, I feel you though. My boyfriend has this problem and it's a struggle. He really doesn't want to eat and is indifferent towards food. We managed to get his weight up from 107 to 129, but it's an every day activity to keep it up. I am constantly worrying about his meals being too small and mine being too large))). I agree with bdixon, trying to add small volume/high calorie food has helped a lot (butter, cheese, meat, fruit). But it's also easier to keep up with eating if someone cajoles you into eating. I know when I'm not around - he doesn't eat. Honestly, I think it's just his natural state; I don't think he was unhealthy or weak at 107, but he didn't feel confident at this weight so here we are. I think it's a problem only if you feel weak, otherwise maybe it's your normal weight. 107 is very low for a 5,6 male, but I honestly think that's his normal. Maybe your normal is below 100?

Shake Those Pounds, it was you! I remember someone posting about it but I couldn't remember who it was. That's an amazing amount of commitment! You must be made out of steel to keep it up for 7 years. Thank you for reminding me about it. Hopefully, this works for me as well.

try confusing it. give it 2 days of "excess", 1500-1800 so it jumpstarts
