New low again. Diet is working. More on this later...

Morning Update:

Ok, so its crazy how I was on probably two successive plateaus and now I am back to trending positively with my weight loss. Here are my thoughts:

1) Home is good - When you travel, you change your routines. You usually do not eat the same, you don't sleep the same and you definitely don't exercise the same. I think the two weeks in London, while a great experience, retarded my diet progress. My body then needed to re-calibrate and now I think I am back on the road I was before. As I look at my weight chart, I see that my plateaus are defined by two three day periods where there was a gain or a freeze in the weight. The value of recording my weight everyday and journaling is that I can then correlate what was occurring at that time. Your mental state and your routines will affect your progress. I would advocate everyone follow what they are comfortable with weigh-ins but at the very least journal....keep a record of what affected you so that you can then connect the dots and make your diet more effective.

2) Good Outlook - Now that I am moving positively on the scale, I am feeling better overall. I can see my next goal becoming tangible in less than a month and its exciting! I am feeling better.

3) Shirt Fit - There is this great dress shirt that I wear, its yellow with blue pin stripes. Its a size 16 1/2 slim. I have not been able to wear it since November 2010. I tried it on in August and the buttons were strained. I decided to try it on today...it fits with no strain! If there is a good sign of weight loss, its those clothes that did not fit that all of a sudden fit. That to me is proof positive. A great feeling.

Sunny in NYC!

Afternoon Update:

Thanks to all who put comments in my Journal:

1) Schmetterling34 - Thank you for your cheer-leading! It helps a lot!

2) HCB - Yep, 30 lbs in two months is crazy...I don't know how it works exactly but I am glad that it did drop that much...

3) Kimjinxie - When I was in HS, I played football and other sports intramurally. My body was diesel and I maintained good grades (college and Law school followed thereafter). I weighed 180 but it was muscle and I had a great metabolism. However, after that, I had the freshman 15 lbs, then went to law school and gained another 15 lbs, then I got married and gained another 10-15...then gained some more. I needed to make a change in how I viewed weight. I was ambivalent to it and would just say I will take care of it later. Its later and I have to care of it now. I have sent you a buddy invite. Thanks for reading my journal.

4) Citygirl - Do not worry about what others think of your diet routine. Weighing in everyday works for me because it lets me track my food intake and exercise output. Additionally, I journal so that I can then compare my mood and thoughts with what I ate and the resulting weight. If I need to make a change then I look at my journal and diet records and adjust. This is a personal choice, however, you should do what you think works for you. I have my digital scale in my bathroom. I weigh myself after I wake up in the morning. No one is there with me and no one will know my weight but me and my FS friends who see my journal.

As far as age, I just turned 40 in August. People at work think I am 31. Age is a number and should not dictate what you do or who you are. I recently went dancing/clubbing as I saw Tiesto, Paul Oakenfold and David Guetta (all in separate venues). You are as young as you feel you are. Me, I think i am 27-32...its all in how we think. So Think Young and you will be young. I sent you a buddy request. Thanks for following my journal.

5) Djburney - Debbie, I hope you are enjoying your vacation and Its good to see you are doing well in your own battle with weight. I hope that when you get back you will see more progress and that you will be in a position where you are mere days away from your goal. Thank you for everything. You are a good friend.

Good news, last night at 6:30pm I finished my report...27 pages. PHEW, good to get that out of the way.

I am loving the sun in NYC. Making me feel like playing hooky!

I was reading your profile today and looked at your goals...wow you want to reach your HS weight and you are 40? It looks like you will do it too. :) For me, my HS weight was too skinny, I don't even remember how much I weighed but I think it was around 155 and I am 6'0" tall. Way to go on the weight loss and hitting some of those goals. Fitting into smaller clothes is awesome! Keep up the good work. :)

Reading your journal today made me realize something. That is, I've been ridiculed in the past to some degree or other for weighing in everyday and so I backed off a bit and would only weigh in every 2nd or 3rd day. But, reading your post reminded me that weighing in each day is not a bad thing. Like you mentioned, if you are serious about your weight loss, weighing in each day can help you to monitor your progress so that you know whether you need to make adjustments. At this point I try to weigh in each day but if I don't, it's more of a time constraint issue, or I forget because I've got so much going on. I'm not going to let naysayers tell me I'm doing anything wrong - my weigh loss graph will speak for itself! If you monitor daily, you can adjust accordingly. Say for example if the your number starts creeping upwards, you know you have to step it up one way or another. I also know what you mean about the clothing-fit thing. In my September 14th journal, I talk about much of the same thing. The scale is okay, but you're clothes don't lie! ;) I'll be turning 43 next month (and I too am told I look to be in my 30's) - there's nothin' like aging well, and there's also nothin' like a healthy outlook and body to go with it! Keep it up - you'll do great! -CG

Weighing in every day really helps me stay on track. As long as it is just information and not a mood determiner, I think it is great! I miss it right now while vacationing, decided not to bring a scale along with me. Clothing is a better way to really know if you are losing fat, anyway! Great job on the steady downward trend, it's fun to see you be successful, and encouraging to me.
