Happy Friday FS Peeps! I hope you are all well.

I'm (hopefully) starting the upward recovery from my first ever round of diverticulitis. (Yeah, I always thought it was an old people thing, and well, I did turn 60 this year). TBH, beside the pain and fever (which cannot be understated), the 'most' difficult thing was the diet! I am and have always been a fiber, fiber, fiber girl. Little did I know that this would be a no-no for my recovery because it actually makes things 'worse'. Who'da thought?

I was relegated to a low/no fiber diet for a couple of weeks! Think white (aka wonder bread), clear liquids, gelatin, ice pops, soups (clear) etc. Blek! Calories for a while were less than 3k over 4 days, not a good way to lose weight AT ALL. Over time, one can ramp up into fiber without aggravating the condition.

Now that I've finished antibiotics, I'm phasing back in to 'real' food, I have been happy to have oatmeal and fruit the last couple of days. (I know I can't be the only one on here that feels completely deprived when they can't eat 'real' food). Last night, it was very frigid here in NH so I indulged in a low calorie hot chocolate and it felt like inhaling a candy store! It's still okay to enjoy the little things. Health recovery can be very slow. So if you are there, I completely empathize with you.

Here's to good health for everyone this year! 🎉

Oh boy, you've been through a lot! Glad you got the ovaries out. Now you won't have to worry about them and you're past the menopause change. I had mine out around 49. Eeks was hard for me. I have a mostly no fiber diet and know many who have actually healed their uncreative colitis and diverticulitis using that diet. If interested you could search Dr Shawn Baker and any type of gut issue. It was hard at first but now it's routine! I love the way I eat. But, not your standard American diet. I hope you feel better.

I have diverticulitis and it sucks. I'm a high fiber girl too and once the acute phase is over it is back to high fiber again. Glad you are over the acute phase.

@morticiaAddams Thank you! So you know, it's terrible. This was my first ever bout with it, holy cow! I ended up with a secondary, antibiotic resistant infection in my ovaries and fallopian which caused surgery to remove all. My body went from zero to 60 with that diverticulitis attack! I am back to eating fiber now thank goodness. Back on the fiber train :-)
