Diana 1234's Journal, 31 December 2023

Sydney came home yesterday! We're so happy but it was challenging. She was pretty mad at us...she gave me the silent treatment but after I loved on her for a bit she was better. The challenge was that she has to pee about every 15 minutes. In a 2 hour period she had 4 accidents in the house. It's literally like when she feels the urge it's already to late. It's hard to because she is pretty drugged up and very thirsty so those added to the challenge. We tried doggie diapers at night, thinking it would be ok but that was a fail. She got those off pretty quick. Feeding her and drinking is hard with cone as well. We are navigating through all the challenges and we are just happy to have her with us Sleep was non existent last night. We took shifts of sleeping in recliner to be there when she needed us. Today the pee pads arrive so hopefully we can get her to go on those.
All that being said, she did not get a good prognosis. Dr said the bladder mass was worse than expected and intertwined within the vascular system. He basically said we are on borrowed time with her now. Could be up to a year but not more..I just feel bad because she went through so much. She hasn't lost her appetite though! She ate dinner and breakfast like a champ! Thanks for all your prayers and good thoughts!

Liv, thanks...and she does love to eat! She is on several medications so she is a bit loopy but honestly I just want to make sure she is comfortable and hopefully she will improve...she hates her cone and keeps bumping into everything! We bought a donut to use instead but Dr wasn't to keen on those as he said they can usually reach site. We will try it today to check it out 💜

When Bogy had his surgery, he kept trying to get at his incision. We bought baby onsies & put him in them. I had the thought maybe if you put one over Sydney's diaper, it would prevent her from getting them off. I hope she starts to feel better soon ❤️

Sherrye, thank you for that idea! We are trying a bigger diaper. Last one was a bit small. It's so sad to watch her trying to maneuver that cone. She tried to go in our master bath last night. She has a bowl on water in there. She got stuck because she couldn't turn around...poor baby!💜

I think the eating is a good sign. My friend at work was just given a poor prognosis for who pup and at the last minute he made a complete turn around. stay hopeful and know that regardless, you've done all you can for her. sweet girl!

The donut inflatable works great if she can’t reach the incision. I’m going to tell you that chemo is not as horrible as people think. Sadie got an entire pretty good year with few complications until she had to go off it. Worth looking into as far as type of cancer and quality of life. Changed my mind forever. One pill every two weeks or so.

It takes a couple of days for them to figure out how to maneuver around with the cone, she will improve even more now that she is home, healing has begun and her stress is much reduced. Even human Doctors underestimate how much better patients do at home as opposed to being in a hospital setting. I'm betting on Syndney!!!!
