All - I'm very much against the woe is me culture but I'm hoping that typing out my current thoughts might be cathartic.
Another night with poor sleep = 2-1/2hrs (11PM - 1.30AM)then laid awake in bed till 7.30AM I'm 100% positive that I didn't nod off. I was obviously in denial of some sort because It took me five or six days to link my sleep issues with the fact that our cat died ten days ago and since I've had 1 to 3 hours sleep 10 days in a row I guess it's not surprising that I'm a bit irritable and I'm extracting myself from seeing friends going to my weekly camera club and communicating/reading on my blokes forum I frequent. The plan is too simplify things until I'm sleeping better that way I'm less lightly to offend anyone. I am being a little blunt to my wife if she tries to extract what I'm thinking but we are managing. Good news is that I'm focusing on what's going well - My diet.

I'm sorry to hear of your loss. These little creatures are part of the family and leave a huge void when they go. Be gentle with yourself.

Well I cannot be 100% sure but find myself thinking of random situations in my life and revisiting with a more modern mindset. generally I fall asleep ok then wake up at say 1:3o bolt upright

Don't be too hard on yourself. I'm no expert but if you don't mind me sharing my opinion I think you need to remember that we have our pets longer than some friendships so it's understandable your loss will affect you. Recognise this and allow yourself time to grieve without feeling you're doing something wrong and eventually your sleep will come back
