moko 13's Journal, 05 November 2022

I haven’t journaled in a little while I guess. Things are going steady. I survived Halloween but still have candy at my fingertips and will have to put it out of sight. 😜
Next week I have a work trip. I get a bit nervous about these trips because it means eating out. When I travel, my mindset is always to eat as much as I can when possible in case the next meal comes late or gets missed. It’s hard to break that. In my mind, I have planned to eat appetizers or small portions but it is still not something I feel I’ve mastered in practice.
This trip I am hoping to do exercise daily. I know I get a lot of steps in walking but I will do some yoga and Pilates, too.
The scale is up this morning because I had a lot of salt yesterday. Dumb Fritos got me when I was watching tv. I have been pretty successful not snacking in the evening but I guess I was “rewarding” myself for making it through the workweek. 😅 Why can’t I reward myself with carrots?! I know you probably know.

Moko, Pistachio's are my 'Fritos'. I've weighed some out and put into bags back in the canister. Having them already portioned out has saved me at least a dozen times in the last month. Good luck with your trip :-)

A Food "Reward" is just a term that puts a positive spin on a negative action (i.e. not adhering to your diet plan for the day or falling back into old eating habits). Non-food rewards can be motivating for the coming week, especially if they help get you to goal. Examples can be a new pair of tennis shoes, a gym membership, or even booking a massage. The immediate problem is the candy and chips that are still in your house instead of the garbage can, and changing the habit of what to do with your hands & mouth while watching TV. Perhaps replace it with snuggling with a pet, doing leg lifts, or chewing gum?

Oh I reward myself in many ways outside of food, too. 😝 Problem seems easy to solve with alternates but have been working the angles for too long I suppose. Thanks.

Now I remember that can, LB! My youngest loves pistachios but I’ve found way too many shells in couch cushions to allow them back in the house. J/k

Moko - one thing i keep in my jacket or backpack is a couple of Ratio: Keto bars. Low carb and a few calories. If i feel like i need a goto to carry me to the next meal, then i rip one open. Just knowing they are there is usually enough to carry me. Possible technique to keep from overeating from one meal to the next. Also, i carry a couple butterscotch candies in case i let my sugar drop while i am dieting. I don’t want them, but i have been pushing my fasting a bit much. I just like having something handy if i get too far down the wrong path. Good luck on your journey.

Thank you, Simple. I have been considering that option, too. Have not tried that brand so will check them out at the store.

But baby carrots are so yummy!😂 So are grapes, which is also a nice dessert-like thing. This week I'm trying a piece of sweet watermelon flavored gum, for those times when I'm not hungry but just want something sweet. Good luck!

So true Taurielfan! I do love baby carrots. I’ve been eating the petite ones which are thinner because my teeth can’t handle the traditional ones very well. Grapes are a staple here, too. 🙂 I have had to cut back on gum chewing recently. I kept injuring my mouth. I like Watermelon flavor but mainly chew minty kinds.

I do the same thing when we travel In my mind, it's not knowing when your next meal is coming that causes me to overeat when I do have food! I never have understood that reaction!?

Virginiared, I chalk it up to human survival instincts! 😅However, I could probably stand to skip a few. I will keep working on re-programming myself.
