Good Morning! 🐓🌞

Before I joined the FS family and started paying attention to my eating patterns, I had NEVER even thought to consider the SIZE of my plate! But ya know what? Since I switched to using a 'salad' plate (and yes, I bought some pretty ones from the thrift store to make it more appealing) I can see 👀 how much difference it makes in 'tricking' me into thinking I'm getting PLENTY of food. My plate is full!! (yet not piled high😉) This whole CICO/counting calories way of life doesn't HAVE to be boring or burdensome...there are little ways to keep it interesting and creatively pleasing (even).

As far as the portions using our hands, I have seen many (and will probably share many) different versions/illustrations. Today's was found on a diabetic site and differs from others I have seen about the meat portioning. I tend to disagree with this one that includes the fingers, others say only the size of the palm is equivalent to a serving of meat.

That's the thing. There is a ton of info out there and I think that each of us can gain something useful to keep tucked away in our 'toolbox' that helps us, as individuals, to succeed. You may not find everything I post to be worth tucking away...but maybe...just maybe...you will find a valuable 'tool'

I share because I care 💙💙💙

Good thought training on portion size. I don't use our dinner plates very often anymore, unless it's for a big salad.

Great advice, especially when eating out or anywhere away from home. At home I measure and weigh everything so plate size i less of a factor. Accurately estimating what you're eating off a salad bar or buffet or a random menu item takes practice using the guidelines you gave us here. Thanks.

I use my palm to eyeball meat in the 3-4 oz range, and the closed fist for apples & such. Also fingertip to bottom of my palm for bananas. But things like rice, oatmeal & casseroles, I use a measuring cup (at least sometimes, LOL!).

All about balance.

Measuring spoons & measuring cups - All of the time - Every time - and that sandwich plate or side plate - That is so your dinner plate. Yeppers ... Thanks again Crystal Jo for reinforcing fact and the truth. Every meal that you do eat - all in proportion and try to remember that you will so eat again - usually within only a few hours. Portion control is very important.

@erika...it's easy to get 'sloppy' (i.e. generous) with our portions. Doesn't hurt to have visuals to help keep us honest 😇

@gastropod...I'm like you, sir. The food scale is permanently placed next to the cutting board and I've learned that the mighty 'gram' is very reliable and accurate. But, like you said, we're not always home and that's where it gets really tricky 😉

Plate size is great as a party trick, too. If I eat at a party or BBQ, I use a cake plate (6"?) and fill it. No seconds or refills of anything. Works like a charm. Better is to just walk around with a drink in hand and not eat at all. No one cares if you eat or not. And if there's a birthday cake, I accept a plate but then set it down on a counter (uneaten) to refill my drink glass and never touch the plate again.

I've never seen this chart before either. Interesting but again relative to the size of hand being used

@cstrutz...I had completely forgotten that I had a set of 'prep' bowls which could be used to also eat out of. Thanks for your suggestion! 👍💙 '

@Jergens...yes, my friend...my favorite part of your comment is reminding us that we will get to eat again soon! LOVE IT! I also measure/weigh EVERYTHING (when I'm home). ✌👊💙
