Sandy701's Journal, 13 April 2012

Walked 3.1 miles again with doggies along for 1.8 miles. Still bright and sunny....temperatures pushing 70 when we began. Gorgeous day....HAVE to do something outside!

Still have some tired muscles...did the additional .7-mile loop later yesterday. I realized that when I added mileage earlier in this journey, I typically added .2 miles, or .3 miles at a time, and only on intermittent days. This week, however, I've just gone ahead and added .7 miles, every day.....no wonder I can feel it!

I was back reading in the Taubes book last night and, just like a previous Presidential election where the oft-repeated phrase was, "It's the ECONOMY, stupid...," I feel like the words in the book were hitting me over the head, saying, "It's the CARBS, stupid...!" LOL! While I don't see any big change in my overall carb load, total or net, when I look back over the last month or two, apparently my body now requires a lighter load to drop weight.....at least that's my theory of the day! Why I need to go lower, I do not know, and perhaps it's not important to know....I just need to make the adjustment, as much as I don't want to.

The book also reminded me that increased exercise doesn't create weight loss.....weight loss makes one WANT TO exercise/move more. I realize that is a controversial mindset and that not everyone will agree. It's what makes his book so intriguing!

EDIT: Walked the .7-mile loop late this afternoon. Will NOT be continuing this tweak beyond this week.

I don't link exercise and weight loss. But I do know that exercise is good for you (bone strength, heart health, mood) besides helping to tone up this excess flab. So it must remain on my "to do" list.

You've hit on the Taubes' proposition. Exercise IS good for a body for all the reasons you've listed. I just got caught up this week thinking that if I just increased my exercise, the weight would drop. It's more complicated than that and I really need to focus on the composition of all my foods more than the exercise component.

I did much better not doing so much too..but I have to agree that at least walking is good for just about every thing for the body..Some times we just have to forget about for awhile...just put it on the back burner but not out of site..of our goals..Keep up the good work..:O)

So, will that be your "key"?

Exercise is really good for our bodies. I've used walking, at times, when I'm frustrated or stressed, and just walked it out of me, gives a person time to think while enjoying outdoors :)

Sorry I missed you yesterday. All this information & conflicting words of wisdom get confusing. For me the excercise makes me feel good about ME, partly because I can do it, I Do do it...if that makes any sense. For a long time, I didn't feel like I could or should excercise...I was too fat, too busy, too tired, those excuses were endless. I can work off a lot of stress & find myself more capable of dealing with work stress, personal/family issues if I am more relaxed. I think I just have a better perspective on things when I am calmer, more relaxed. So, yes I believe excercise is good for the Mind & Body! I do also believe that the extra calories burned by excercise helps the weight loss along a bit!
