Day 1 - To the rest of my life "diet"

So I am now ready to commit to a healthy lifestyle. I know there are going to be days that I will fall down....but know from my past experiences....I just have to get back up and get back on track and leave it behind.....

I now accept that for me personally to succeed in weigh loss and maintaining a healthy weight - I have to record what I eat. In saying that I remember the stress weekends used to cause me - not knowing calories of foods I didn't prepare...so am going to try the not recording on weekends and just watching what I eat (I mean I have to also teach myself self control too right??!). I will try this for two months and see how it goes (everything is long term).

Today is a perfect day....it's raining while I'm sitting here at my desk (I could hear my garden sighing with relief this morning) and later it is going to be sunny (yes I have ordered it lol)...so I can get out in my garden after dinner and do some maintenance. I have so many roses this year, the branches are battling to hold them up, so will need to pick some.

I'm glad to see some of my buddies are also getting back on track....come on we can do this!

Yay Tracy, indeed yes we can and will do it,i think at the weekends and when you can't count the calories you just need to watch the portion sizes, i went away on an all inclusive holiday for a week, the first time i've ever done one and only put on 2lb which i thought was great as i was eating and drinking alcohol which i don't really do these days, also take time with your food, don't rush it, it takes 20 minutes for your tummy to say it's full (or s i have been told), by christmas we will al look amazing x

I totally agree Jo about portion sizes (one of my biggest downfalls!). Wow that was fantastic on your holiday - it just shows it can be done and we don't have to overeat to enjoy ourselves. Looking forward to Christmas :) x

Don't fool yourself. We do have to overeat to be truly happy....or at least eat the wrong things. Who can have a smile on their face when they are craving for their favourite foods ??

@bigfatbastard I can quite honestly say that in my life time, the times I have been my heaviest have been the most unhappy times of my life. Food it not a comfort to me....it is a weapon of abuse....I have been both anorexic and obese and the pain is just the same.

That's OK..Nothing wrong with convincing yourself, and as long as you believe that's all that matters.

Hi Foodfightnomore - I have been where you have - and I understand where you are.... any disordered eating is misery ..... and feeling out of control in either direction is just as bad.. I also suffered from anorexia and bulimia and have to really check my behaviours around food are good for me and not to do with other issues :0) - so, good luck in treating yourself well and fairly - that is the best way :0) and - I find exercise helps because it really lifts the mood and makes it easier to cope with negative feelings. All the best, Lulu

Hi Lulu - thank you for your comments and I fully get where you are coming from. I was anorexic and bulimic in my late teens - a long time ago now....but am very conscience of not going there again and sometimes wonder if this does hinder my weight loss. But you are right we always need to keep our eyes open to what we are doing and why. But I am in the best possible place in my life now and just need to trust my actions are right for me. Exercise is a definite plus - I'm not recording any at the moment as this time of year my garden keeps me busy most evenings and that's good enough exercise for me and great for my state of mind :)

I love gardening too FFNM - this weather makes the evenings perfect for deadheading roses and pottering about - got a bit carried away pruning a Mexican honey blossom last night though - it looks a bit bald now! :0/

ha ha I thought WTF is FFNM....there's me googling it! It's early...just call me Tracy...I'm confused far too easily! I did that to my magnolia tree - took all the low lying branches off...thinking it would look better, not so sure and the cats are really p'd with me as they used to hide in it.
