DistantMidget's Journal, 18 April 2018

Somewhat disheartened after not losing this week.

I've stalled at 18st 8lbs, not that I've been great.
I've been treating the 2000 calories a day thing as a target rather than a limit!
We reap what we sow springs to mind.

That said I have been eating better, no takeaways and limited junk food.
I do feel better and its nice not feeling bloated on carbs all the time.

Considering dropping to 1800 calories and cutting out 'treats' lets be honest at 260lbs I don't need the addition of any chocolate based calories.
260.0 lb Lost so far: 6.0 lb.    Still to go: 50.0 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.

Diet Calendar Entry for 18 April 2018:
1588 kcal Fat: 58.60g | Prot: 68.64g | Carb: 185.37g.   Breakfast: Soft Boiled Egg, Warburtons Danish White Bread, Tesco Cholesterol Reducing Spread. Lunch: Florette Mixed Salad, Morrisons Carvery Cooked Ham. Dinner: Morrisons Ready to Roast Mediterranean Vegetables, Morrisons Lightly Dusted Basa Fillets. Snacks/Other: Bananas, Kenco Instant Coffee with Milk, Magnum Mint, Innocent Orange Juice Smooth, Innocent Orange Juice Smooth, Walkers French Fries Ready Salted (22g), Lilt Lilt Zero, Sprite Sprite Zero (Can), Lilt Lilt Zero. more...

Make sure you drink enough. I find that sufficient fluids help moving the scales.

Thanks for the advice guys, I've made a mental note and have drunk more today. I'm told as you get older you find it harder to detect the difference between hunger and thirst, so plenty of fluids may well be whats required.

at 18 stone, male, female or age you should be able to lose weight at 2000 calories. have you thought about increasing your activity levels? you need to reset your metabolism!

Indeed I do need to increase my activity levels, totally agree. One thing that does get in the way of that is the osteoarthritis in my right knee. I now have a 5 degree deformation due to bone on bone abrasion. I used to do a lot of walking, as in 5 miles a day 5 days a week by the beach, but the reality now is I'm in agony after the first Km! Plus the 4hrs of driving a day to and from work doesn't help, lets be honest after 12 hrs I've had enough. That said I have a telephone interview today with a guy for working at a local organisation so perhaps things will change...

When I find myself stalling, I drink some apple cider vinegar (for metabolism) then do two days of eating a maximum of 500 calories. It kinda reboots my system.

Cool thank you for the hint, worth a try especially useful on a work day. Weekends are the worst for temptation!

Hi, I would say don’t give up, try to make your meals for the next day the night before. Wraps are great way to start, easy to make and eat even on the go. I calculated your macros to aid you in weight loss. You should be on 1600 calories a day. Swap your carbs to complex carbs, only eat lean meat if you eat meat, plenty of just fresh plain salad and only use low calorie dressing. You must drink at least 2litres of water to help flush out and clean your body. The scales will start going down in no time!

Maybe worth dropping your calories to below 1500 for a couple of weeks to see if that gets your weight loss going agan with a bang? 😏 I never exercised until recently, just kept an eye on the calories. And as others have said, drink plenty of water.

Thanks Allen, Neil when I first read 1500/1600 calories my knee jerk response was I want to lose weight not starve to death. However I take onboard the advice, cause let’s be honest I am many, many, many weeks from that !

I am in a similar boat to you, my Knee isn't as bad but gives out at the most unexpected times & for no apparent reason. Try an exercise bike as you can have it at a fairly low level to start & you don't need to peddle hard or fast just enough to make you slightly breathless. some days i manage 10 minutes others only 2 but i have noticed my knee stability has improved. Good Luck
