Multiplicity1's Journal, 22 March 2010

It was a good day. I stayed under 20 grams of total carbs (unless Kraft mayonnaise has 1 carb per tablespoon in which case I am half a carb over). I haven't been fitting snacks in for a few days so I am trying to make sure I do that now. I am still constipated. I have tried MIM's for 2 days (using up most of my carbs), lemon juice in hot water, walking and my husband's Walgreen's fiber medicine (6 carbs worth) without any success. So I figured I wouldn't lose weight this week and I didn't but fortunately I didn't gain any weight either. I'm not really sure why I'm not losing except I may not be eating enough vegetables but it seems like I am either running out of carbs or going over 1700-1800 calories when I try to fit more in. I got The 4 Day Win by Martha Beck and the Beck Diet Solution by Judith Beck in the mail today and I can't wait to read them. I can use all the help I can get to change and make this change permanent. Speaking of change the past week I have been walking every day mostly for 30 minutes but today I decided not to walk because I had a class until 7:30pm. My dog stopped throwing up but still isn't eating normally. Her tumor has grown and probably spread so I know the end can't be far away. Thnak you everyone who wrote supportive messages I really appreciate the support and kindness.

Hi Andrea - have you tried upping your high fiber veggies? That may actually help you get your veggie carbs in and your constipation. Maybe some brussel sprouts or cabbage? Sorry to hear about your dog. I have three large dogs myself and 2 of them are 10 & 11, getting up in age for large dogs. I have had to put 2 of my previous dogs down due to age and chronic illness and know how hard it is... As much as I wanted to keep them around as long as possible, once I noticed how much pain they were in... that was it for me, I had to think about the quality of their lives. I am tearing up right now thinking about it. Hang in there and remember we are here for you.

Thank you so much for your kind words. I'll definitely PM you when the time comes to put my dog down. She is a large dog, too so 13 is old for her I guess. I have been carefully watching her to try to see if she seems to be in pain but she seems to be happy, playful and not acting like she is hurting. Her appetite is still down a bit. She doesn't gulp everything down all at once like she usually does but other than that and the fact that I can feel the tumor growing she seems OK. I don't know if I should take her to the vet - he doesn't X-ray so I don't know if he could tell very easily if she needs to be put down. My husband doesn't want to go to the vet because he is afraid of what the vet will say but I am more afraid of our dog suffering unnecessarily. If you don't mind me asking how did you know when to put your dogs down? It is such a terribly hard decision. Also thanks for the suggestion re:fiber. I just had cabbage tonight and we also eat brussel sprouts on occasion.
