F8thful1's Journal, 12 January 2012

I think I'm going to change my diet designation; I am sad to remove the "Atkins" from my diet, but truly what I am doing is different and I don't want newcomers to be confused if they look at my food journal (especially since Christmas, as it has not been great).

I'm not sure the name of what I am doing, but it is more of a High fiber/Low GI plan; I might have to come up with a name. The difference for me is this: on Atkins, I could not predict my success. I could eat the same way from one week to the next, but for a couple of weeks I would feel bloated and my weight loss would stall, then then next it would move again, very random. I tried everything that was suggested, but after the first month I really struggled with digestive issues. That was frustrating for me (and as I read others journals, I am not alone in this).

Don't get me wrong! I am truly and forever thankful for the Atkins WOE and for all of those who went ahead and paved the way with suggestions and recipes. It was exactly what I needed to do last spring when I began this journey - which was get my sugar and carb cravings under control.

Over the past couple of months I have tweaked my WOE, and now my weight loss is much more predictable. If I eat properly; lower carb (around 100 NG per day), calories around 1500, low sugar and low GI....then I will lose about one pound per week and I feel really good.

I feel badly when I see folks who are struggling with stalling on a low carb WOE. I realize that some people are not truly sticking to the plan, but I think there are others (like me) who stuck to the plan but for some reason their body did not perform.

What I am doing now is not so much 'a diet' but a WOE that I can sustain for the long haul. I don't feel like I am biting nails just to get through the day. If my weight loss slows down before I am done (I will also be changing my goal as I need to lose more than I originally thought), then I will change things up again. If I allow my sugar/carbs to get out of control, I know what to do...back to Atkins!

Blessings all on your journey!

Hmmm....looked at the 'change my diet', and I don't want to reset my weight loss history (I love watching it progress!). Does anyone know if this will happen?

i think it stays, i switched from "my own diet" to atkins and my history stayed, but I switched after only one day. Hope I'm not misleading you.

I'm not sure...hopefully someone who's done this (Stef, are you there?) can let you know if it's possible to do so without losing your history. I know I've seen some histories that show A Diet, then B Diet, then C Diet, then A Diet, etc., so it should be possible. But what I don't know is if their total weight loss, in pounds, still shows or if it's just since the last diet change. Hope you get some answers. Sounds like you're making a solid decision that will work for you long-term - congratulations!

The thing about "diets" is that its a long term choice. I hope your new way of eating works as well as you feel it will since it is a lifetime choice to keep it up!

Whatever works for you as a healthy lifestyle that is what you need to do. I myself eat a lot of fiber in various forms, veggies, berries, low carb/high fiber tortillas, flax muffins and often sprinkle ground flax on my food or in soups. I loose about 1 pund a week on the average. Recently I tried low carb ice cream and sabotaged myself, threw out the rest. We'll get to our desired weight, sometimes having to tweak our woe a little if that helps.
