Interesting news - My husband has to see the doctor every three months due to high cholesterol, high blood pressure and chronic pain. Three months ago they put him on a new high cholesterol medication, he took it for 30 days and it increased his chronic pain from a 6 to a 9, so he stopped taking it. He (of his own accord) partially adopted my WOE, stopped wheat and sugar, ate my snacks. He did not add in the fats I eat other than avocados and nuts. He has done this for two months. He is down 30 lbs. All of his Lipid Panels are in the normal range, triglycerides were at 300, now at 111. All his doctor could do was say WOW! She said she has never seen a reversal of cholesterol of that magnitude in such a short period of time WITHOUT medication. He's all smiles, says he feels like he got all A+'s on his report card.

I'm all smiles too!

Doobrie, from all I have read and from talking to friends who are MD's, they spend about 5 minutes in medical school on nutrition, they simply follow the ADA, AMA, FDA and USDA guidelines when they recommend a diet to some poor slob who is 150 pounds overweight. When it fails to decrease the weight of the individual, the doctor blames the patient for not sticking with the diet. I followed every diet I was put on perfectly, did exactly as instructed and most times, gained weight because what they wanted me to eat was more than what I normally ate anyway. They never look past the fact of failure, then they start writing prescriptions because they were taught to treat the symptoms that were presented. The whole medical approach to health is wrong, but then again.......a healthy patient does not need to go to the doctor.....I make my yearly visit next month :)

Great news Debra...I too had perfect numbers after 4 months "informally" doing low carb. My doctor was shocked. Now if I could get by daughter and grandson to embrace low carbs. Like you say, "Example" is the best teacher. Good for hubby.

Pandasmom, his blood pressure did go down and the Dr cut 2 of his BP meds, he's still on atenolol, and that's too bad, I would have liked to see the beta blockers go bye bye.

He said she ran and got my chart and made a note in it to question me further when I come in for my yearly next month. He told her what he cut out and then told her what I fed him instead, but he could not tell her they why's of it and she is curious, bless his heart, he could not remember the name LCHF. He also said she kept repeating WOW over and over LOLOLOL! He's never had a doctor be pleased before and he has never walked out of a Dr's office two prescriptions lighter and no new ones in hand!

Way to go on your annual visit, Debra! I'm glad you're going to have a chance to educate the doctor too - lol!

Yay for your husband's results: how FANTASTIC! And, the doctor is curious instead of dismissive: this bodes well for her and her patients' futures. Your husband will doubtless continue to get healthier and healthier, needing fewer and fewer medications!

It's nice to have a doctor who isn't dismissive and who is curious. Patient/doctor relationships should be more like this........a team.
