I've been inactive on FS for a while, I always seem to bounce back and forth... But even though I havent been logging my food, I've managed to do well. I've been able to mostly maintain, although I did lose a couple pounds.

Question for you guys... Any of you experienced intestinal parasites? And if so, how did you get rid of them? My son recently got pinworms from the kids at daycare, then the whole family (including me) got them. We've had a tough time getting rid of them, all the meds didn't seem to work, so I'm also trying a few herbal remedies.

Anyone take DIATOMACEOUS EARTH? In the midst of everything, I discovered this substance and have been taking it for about a week. So far, I have noticed it has seemed to help "clean me out", and my appetite and cravings for sweets have decreased. Just wondering if anyone else takes it, and with what results? If you've never heard of it, take the time to google it... It's pretty interesting, and most people that take it swear by the stuff.

I've never ingested diatomaceous earth, but my sister used it in my mother's apartment when her senior center had problems with bed bugs. They sprinkled it all around the baseboards and under the chair where she sits and sleeps. I understood it works because it is a ground shell-type substance which has very sharp particles. When the bugs crawled over it the DE's sharp particles injure/kill the bugs. It makes me wonder what it might do to your intestines.

I was going to say the same thing - we've been told to use it to keep ants away. Based on the chemical composition info, not sure it's something you want to ingest, even food grade.

Maybe you should post this on the forum, more people will read it that way.

Oh my that is fascinating. I've been acquainted with DE powder for years. I use it to filter my swimming pool. Please be sure it's safe to ingest.

It can be used for both purposes...There's actually a food grade DE that is safe to consume. I checked with my gastroenterologist before I bought it, and he had good things to say about it and recommended I give it a try. I was just curious what others thought about it, because not many people that I'm close to are familiar with it. The food grade can be used as a natural pesticide, it's very safe for pets and children. I also have used it to get rid of ants, and it's very effective! Snezica, I'll do that, thanks!

Btw, DE is NOT a chemical, it is silica, which is a mineral.

I like natural products myself, I think you are on the right track. I used black walnut , that I order in a capsule form from Swanson vitamin products.

I had pin-worms as a kid. I was told that it was because I would play in the road gutters when it would rain, not sure how true it is/was, but I sure got them. I don't know how my mom knew I had them, I don't ever remember complaining or anything like that. From what I remember, they tend to come out at night and you've got to check you butt, or someone else has to check it. This I do remember happening. Maybe I complained about a itchy butt; lol.. Haven't thought about this in decades! The solution was garlic. My mom would chop up a glove or two of garlic every day and sprinkle it in my sandwich that I would take to school. I don't know if she added it to my breakfast or my dinner, but I knew it was in my lunch sandwich. I loved the taste of garlic as a kid so it never bothered me. I think she would use it for a week or two and they would disappear. Maybe 6 to 8 times this happened as a kid. I never took OTC or prescription medicine for them, it was always garlic. Hope that helps.

Thanks Glen, missed you all too! Thanks for the tip, Frosty... I had read about the garlic, we've been eating it on everything for almost 2 weeks now, and taking garlic supplements as well. My 13 yr old says the smell of garlic has traumatized him because of the worms, lol! Poor kid... This has been an awful experience for all of us, and I pray we never have to go through this again. Karen, I think I'll order the black walnut...I had been putting it off because I can't find it locally, but at this point I want to do everything possible to make sure these things are GONE! Just the thought of something inside me is unbelievably disturbing... Thanks for all the comments and support!
