has anyone else had gallbladder issues on Atkins? It's really hurting the last couples of days, and of course when I read up on it, it says stay away from eggs, chicken, fat etc. Can't really do that with Atkins! Tried drinking some apple cider vinegar to see if it would help. It said that pears are really good for gallbladder too, but not supposed to have those either? Any input?

I have mine gallbladder removed this past December and I have kidney failure and on peritoneal dialysis which takes protein out of my system and my nutritionist recommend the Atkins diet for me for the extra protein, and well I just read Dr Atkins book and he said that if you are having problems it's not from the diet because gallstones are from a lack of certain types of fats and oils and the bile turns into little crystals and that takes time not just in a couple of weeks. but if you are really having pains I would def go to your doctor to make sure it's not something else and to see what your Dr says about you being on Atkins, Hope you get to feeling better.-Cheryl

Sorry to hear about your gallbladder issues. I do not have any experience with issues of this kind. Obviously you should talk with your doctor and get a good consultation. If it turns out that it is related to any diet of any kind I would advise stopping and switching to an alternate weight loss program. We are all different and not evey "diet" is appropriate for everyone. Good luck and I hope everything turns out well.

I would go see my Dr. and talk with them and see what they say. You may need to switch diets.

High protein can cause gallbladder problems in some people. I would have it checked out to be on the safe side.

You need to get off the diet. Lower fat diets high on fiber are best for you're condition. Avoid rapid weiht loss also. Try ww, the fash, or the mediterrarian diet.

There are a ton of people who have this issue over at the Atkins.com site. Your best bet would be to post Attn: Colette with your question there.

hey i had to have my gallbladder removed as i got a stone stuck they say it can be life threatening so i would go and see your doctor i had my first attack when i was 20 weeks pregnant but thought it was trapped wind the next attack was quite severe and i couldn't breath i had a 4 day stay in hospital, i had one more attack 3 days before christmas 2 years ago they said that the gallbladder would have to be removed i was booked in for surgery 3 weeks later!!! you should stay off all fatty food but in the end if it gets bad anyfood can trigger an attack, i'm so glad i had mine removed as the attacks were very very painfull and quite frightening especially when i couldn't breathe and my little girl saw me. You should go and see the doctor they told me that if a stone gets stuck in the duct you could get kidney and liver failure, hope the pain eases soon :-)

trying a gallbladder cleanse - so the pain is gone for now. It's nothing but applejuice for 3 days, then on the 3rd night there are several other steps that I will spare you from. ;-) I've heard this is really good, so we'll see?

Did you see your doctor yet? You really need to. My first attack came on Christmas Eve after I had been on WW for months. My family thought I was having a heart attack because I couldn't breath. I told some friends at work about it and was told it was my gallbladder. I found that if I ate no fat I was fine but even salad dressing or a fatty cut of meat can cause an attack wich can last for days. I've been gallbladder free for 3 years and don't regret not having it. If you don't have it looked at, you can cause some real damage to your pancreas. That is an organ you need. Please tell me you're going to make an appointment.

I have issues with it off and on since college and the last time I had an attack I had an ultrasound done, and it showed nothing. My attacks are not near as severe as the ones you guys have had, mine is more of a dull ache that sometimes feels like a cramp. I talked to a nurse at church yesterday and she thought the cleanse was a great thing to start off with.

Funny thing about the gallbladder is that you don't have to have stones for it to act up. I have a friend that would get such severe attacks and go rushing to the ER only to have all her symptoms disappear by the time they saw her. She got tired of paying ER bills for them to tell her that they can't find anything. After years of dealing with it she finally had an attack that lasted long enough for them see her and she ended up with an emergency operation. Trying the cleanse is a start but if you have another attack after and are able to see a doctor, please do.

I agree with davidsmom nicole it really can be quite fatal and you have such young children my little girl was 8 at the time and she was shouting for her dad as iwe thought i was having a heart attack i couldnt breath the pain went into my back and i couldn't walk by the time i had got to a&e the pain had eased quite considerably they did some blood tests which showed my liver profile to be through the roof (it puts stress on your liver, kidney and can cause pancreatitis which can kill you)!!! I'm so glad mine was removed as with small kids i (my little born just 6 months at the time) i couldn't afford for a severe attack to happen and my hubby be at work. They said that mine could have been bought on by fluctuating hormones during the pregnancy as thats when i had my first attack at the time we thought it was just trapped wind!!!!
