jespes26's Journal, 01 January 2022

I follow a low carb/keto diet but not as traditionally low in carbs as some people- I remain in Ketosis (I check with urine strips) up to around 50g carbs a day - but they are all from veg, seeds and blueberries.

I would like to cut my fat consumption down slightly and increase my protein. Current weak spots in my diet- I like bacon and a bit much cheese at lunchtime. I have switched to feta and will also possibly try mozzarella or reduced fat feta. I don’t want to go super low- I am
Around 100g a day and would like to be more around 80-85g.

I don’t usually eat nuts but at the moment I am as I was given some for Christmas 😆 same for Lindt 85% so I am
Enjoying that but it does distort by macros

Hi, I really want to start doing keto. Any advice for a beginner? 😊

Its a very effective diet and is very easy to sustain after the first two weeks, my advice is not to try and make “carb free” copies of your favourite foods like bread, brownies, cookies etc. For me they taste horrible and gives me massive cravings for the real thing. Also they are usually made with nut or seed flours that ar very high in calories

I agree- rather than heaps of substitutes and copies of originals- I like to stick to the basics of eggs, meat (fish/chicken/pork And some red meat) , and lots of fresh veggies and salads- usually with most meals I try have some veg. And sometimes berries. I enjoy the occasional nuts and seeds as a treat. I don’t really snack- find 3 meals a day works for me with the odd frozen blueberries in the evening. The website that has taught me the most is DietDoctor which is all research based low carb info :)

I think a bit misconception as well is that you can eat as much as you want so long as it’s low carb. Calories still count especially if it’s high calorie foods like nuts and cheese. The difference for me is that I don’t feel super hungry all the time - for me on high carb low fat I am always waiting for the next meal or snack and always a bit hungry. I don’t have that eating low carb. I mostly track my calories of big items like my eggs, meat, oil- I don’t weigh or measure salads and green veg much. I have been eating like this for three years, it’s definitely sustainable 😉

Hello to you. I love bacon but is too expensive in kilojoule as I am trying to lose.
