Holistic approach

Balance work-out, balance food, balance life.

Everything in life should be about balance. Stand on one foot if you not shift you weight to the pivot point above the foot you will fall. Kick someone without balance and you have lost all defense. Eat without balance and your body will protest one way or the other. Work-out without balance and you are on a hell-road to injury. Think without balance and you will fall into depression forever!

live life with balance!

Now that is easier said then done! I know! But lucky for those without balance, it can be trained. For those with balance, it should be trained, but your training will be easier.

Sit down for one second and think about it.

What part of your life is lacking balance right now? Is it your diet? your work-outs? your mental health? is life catching up on you, too many external influences?

what part of the scale is tipping over? What do you need to do to tip it back? Is it something you are willing to do? Is there no other way? Think about it this way: If you have a scale with on one end a kilo of apples and on the other side two kilo of pizza. Removing the pizza is not the only way to get the scale to balance again!
Same goes with the work-outs. If you don't work-out enough, going to the gym for hours is not the only way to tip the scale back.
Same goes with food. using less calories is not the only way to lose fat.

So what do you do when you find yourself with a tipped scale? Do we drop everything what we are doing and go full throttle on the work-outs, or drop everything we are eating and just use shakes? That is like grabbing a random amount of apples and dumping it on the scale hoping it will balance out with the two kilo on the other side... That does not sound too smart does it? Or do we take our journey towards balance with one apple at a time?

maud.

This website helps me with the tipped scale - it gives a clear visual (and numerical) signal of when I've gone to far with the "indulgence" day(s); this signals me to ratchet consumption back, but not go overboard. Thanks for the thoughtful post. By the way - I could never dump the pizza off the scale; I'd have to eat it!

What part of my life is in balance? That's an amazing question. Dog is sick, moving dad into a care home the middle of July, I don't teach guitar over the summer (too hard with students out of school and everyone vacationing, and starting a new business. I've forgotten something, but I can safely say... nothing is in balance except diet and exercise. Tying a knot in the end of the rope. @ Jon299 You're evil. :)

Surely the fact that people are reading this can only mean something is out of balance. If not then why are they FS members. ? I know I am out of balance on many things in life and this includes my weight. I can and have taken action on my weight and achieved so much but other parts of my life I can do little or nothing about. Balance is a deep and complex subject and will often depend on who you are and what you do along with how and when you do it. We often read on here that friends tell members they are losing too much weight or too quickly and should ease off. This again is balance but in who's opinion is the balance right or wrong. The conclusion I come to is that balance is relevant to the individual and each to their own as it is far too complicated a subject to be generalised. This I hope you understand is only my opinion but it is well known that I am out of balance, hmmmmmmm

@stadon forget the fun, its just 10% luck 20% skill 15% concentrated power of will. 5% pleasure 50% pain.

I constantly meditate. I wear earphones with guided imagery or ocean/woods sounds in the background.
