I believe that everyone should have at least one dog in order to be healthy.

I got up this morning and went out onto the back deck to find a misty, wet morning. That coupled with shin splints & sore thighs from my run yesterday had me considering sitting down at my desk and knocking out some of the work I brought home to finish on my "day off". However....the dogs reminded me that because of the 5k I did yesterday morning, they haven't had a stretch of the legs since Friday. Sooo, I decided that I'd take them out for a short run since it wasn't actively raining. It took a couple of miles to stretch out my legs, but then we got warmed up and ended up going 7 miles. The weather was warm and humid until we were a mile and a half from home. Then I heard the wind rising through the woods to the North of me. Within 30 seconds, a dense fog covered everything about 1/4 mile ahead of me. The fog literally raced at me and reached me within less than a minute. The temperature dropped 30 degrees (Fahrenheit) instantaneously. Since I was wearing shorts and a t-shirt, we picked up the pace toward home. At a half-mile from the house, a light rain started, but we managed to get home before we got too wet. All in all we had a great bit of exercise and a lot of fun. We saw a great blue heron fishing in a pond along the way, as well as several herds of whitetail deer. Getting back to my original point, having dogs encourages me to get off my butt and walk, even when I don't particularly feel like doing so. The dogs love it and I always feel better after I do, so its a win-win. The thing about dogs is...their so easy to make happy. Give them some kibble (and the occasional treat), pet them now & then, & take them for walks. What kind of bastard would I be if I didn't do this little bit to please them...lol.

Anyway, after finishing the walk, I spent a couple of hours watching "Frozen" on Netflix with my granddaughter. Now its time to knock out some work before we drive into town to drop off the grandchild, catch a movie and do some grocery shopping.

I hope that the rest of the weekend is wonderful for all of you!

I agree with the dog comment. My golden retriever covers probably 10 times the ground I do when we're out. (She's nuts.) As to the weather... shivering burns calories.

Ah great hikes with your dogs....my husband hates them and we have a rule here that you have to pick up after your dog which makes it even worse and puts me off then! it was bad enough cleaning diapers from my kids,,, couldn;t bear to clean up after the dogs too! i need a break!

Nothing like a dog to take its owner out for a walk! Very good strategy. Isn't it funny how we can care more about our animals when it comes to exercise than ourselves? Sounds like a fun time.
