TXSnowman's Journal, 31 December 2013

I want to Wish a Very Happy New Year to all on FS!

This journal entry will be a bit longer than usual, but since this is the last day of the year, I think that its appropriate to reflect back upon what has transpired during the year that is closing and look forward at the year to come.

Well, I've had my official "Last Day of the Year Weigh-In". I'm pleased to see a 2.4 pound drop. That means a total decline of 134 pounds during 2013. Since I only began in earnest on May 29th, I'm even more pleased. I began by wearing 54" waist trousers (that were a bit snug). Yesterday, I went shopping and bought jeans that were 34" Regular. I tried on 34" "Relaxed Fit" and they were too baggy. WOW, that was a pleasant surprise. I'm now only one pant size from what I wore when I was an athlete in High School oh so many years ago!

I began this year with two short hospital stays. The first because I got bronchitis which had my blood pressure at 220 over 160 and the second because of being generally "worn-out". So I decided to get fit before I died. Today my blood pressure stays about 125 over 75. During the year, I wrecked an ankle hiking (in early June), broke a few ribs and had a possible concussion during the "Extreme Zombie 5K Obstacle Course Run" (in early December), got "Runner's Toe" (in Mid-December), and have tonsillitis (as of last night). I decided not to let any of these stop me this year. I ate a lot of aspirin and kept going. The ankle is healed, the ribs are getting better, no lasting effects from the head injury, and the tonsillitis will pass.

I need to thank all of the wonderful people on FS for sharing their journey, as well. I really couldn't have come this far without this program. It is wonderful to be able to read what all of you are doing to reach your goals. Its comforting to know that their are thousands of folks out there striving to overcome similar obstacles and sharing their successes and failures along the way. I take tips from many of you and incorporate them into my own life plan to help me achieve my goals. It's cathartic to be able to know you are all out there traveling the same road that I am. So THANK YOU, to those of you that have sent me suggestions and kind thoughts and also to all who just share their own posts for the rest of us to read and enjoy your successes or commiserate the setbacks that life throws our way.

Looking forward to 2014, I have begun to change my diet and exercise program slowly and will continue to do so to ease myself from a straight weight-loss mentality to an overall health-improvement mode. My goals for 2014 are to lose the last 2" off my waist, drop my body fat percentage to the low teens, and build some lean muscle mass (particularly core and upper body).

I want to wish all my FS Buddies a VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR! And Best Wishes on continued success with your own life plans!
