F8thful1's Journal, 05 November 2012

By now I have been on this journey for well over a year. During that time I have lost over 40 pounds, put back on 10, then lost a few back again. Right now I am at about a net loss of 38. I had success with Atkins (for which I am forever grateful!), but got bored with low carb so switched over to a low calorie, low fat regime for awhile. Unfortunately for me that became a low fat but high carb regime and I really started feeling bad; headaches in the morning, dark circles around my eyes, low energy, and sugar cravings.

I know now, without a shadow of a doubt, that I jeopardize my health when I eat too many unhealthy carbs. If I am exercising, I can eat some healthy carbs like steel cut oats, berries, greek yogurt, lowered carb tortillas, etc. But I really need to limit those. I need to look back over my food diary to see what my upper limit of carbs should be for maintaining, but I do want to lose at least 10 more pounds.

So, I'm back to a lower carb eating style, already feeling better. Last year I did really well during the holidays; I experimented with baking with various low carb ingredients, so I'll be sure to have a few things that I can eat.

As I was reminded last week, while this is a life-long health issue, I only have to deal with it on a day by day basis. One day at a time; one meal at a time.

OK all.....blessings for your day!

Glad you are back on track with what works for you. You said the words that count "unhealthy carbs". I think that's where the secret lies. I am staying about the same right now. Like you I lost 40 pounds and am keeping it off. I have added more fruit and vegetables and have more energy. What works for us is what counts. Jim, my hubby, has to watch his carb intake much more than I do. I also watch not to eat too much fat. I use olive oil and Smart Balance with olive oil most of the time now. Pasta is Deamfield, and I weigh the serving first. Bread is from Julian Bakey, low in carbs. That allows me a pretty normal lifestyle. I have actually had a baked potato in a steakhouse. It did not have a bad effect, but that was ONCE. Have a great day, :) I

Thanks Gigi. I like Dreamfields too, but agree - we can't overdo! Do you order your Julian's bread? I know you mentioned being in So. California and going to their bakery. Great job on the 40 pound loss. I'm sure you feel so much better! At least potatoes have lots of fiber, so I would consider it a healthy carb to eat once in awhile! Better than chocolate cake!
