NowIsTheTime's Journal, 13 September 2012

I've been eating pretty darn good for about 2 weeks. No eating out, no ice cream, healthier meals at home. Today is day 9 of Shred. I've also been out for 1-3 mile jogs 7 of the last 8 days. Being back in the classroom has me moving more during the day as well. HOWEVER I have not lost any weight. After having to take a month off from exercising I thought for sure this could help me shave off a few pounds that have creeped on. I feel so defeated, like this hard work has been for nothing. I'm so frustrated I could cry.

Have you done a calorie assessment? Do you know how much on average you are consuming VS working out and I looked over your meals for today and be so careful about unaccounted calories like that butter spray it actually has calories!!! Depending on how much you use it could add up. What total caloric intake are you aiming for?

I tend to hit roughly 1800 calories a day, based on what I ate today and what I'll eat later. The main reason I added my food today is to see where the heck I'm going so wrong. I know I eat a pretty calorie heavy breakfast but that's where I tend to be most hungry. I've been eating pretty light dinners because I'm just not as hungry after working out in the evenings. I do snack on lowfat popcorn and strawberries too. Apparently my calories burned are overestimated and my food intake in underestimated. :(

1800cal isn't bad and you are jogging now again. I tend to be pretty hungry in the mornings too, most likely those nightly workouts are making you super hungry in the morning. My advice would be to do some personal research for yourself. Age,gender, weight loss goal, calorie counts, exercises etc. Then, start your daily logs. Read labels and count. Look at where the majority of your calories are coming from. Fat/Carbs/Protein. Try to cut out or be smart about fast food. Grilled chicken burgers no mayo extra veggies. Smart bread choice, which you have been doing. Whole wheat pastas when you cook, fat free milk, low fat butter etc. The exercise needs to bring the heart rate up for cardio and in a particular zone for weight loss. For me a 3/4mile "jog" non stop 6.0-6.5mph put my heart at 160's. I choose to do interval running because the heart rate comes up then a rest rate so the heart rate comes back down, then repeat. You wanna sweat and feel it (pushing yourself). Let me know if you want me to help you put together a routine. Do not get down on yourself. We will just attack this from a different angle. :)

Thanks for your advice and support! Sometimes it just takes a reminder to stick to it. When I got home from work today I was ready for a pity party but luckily I talked myself into Shred and my dog's mournful eyes convinced me to go for a jog! I know I can do better if I keep a more watchful eye on my food intake. Unfortunately the older I get, the less easy it is to lose a few lbs!
