I just had my first baby in October 2013 - I went from a size 2 to a size 8. I haven't worked out in over a year and don't have as much time to do so they way I'd like to get back into it. This is my first time trying Atkins and actually doing the math to count, with no alcohol or candy, my two vices.

Nighttime eating
I've always been a night grazer - as the wheels turn in my head, its the ultimate "comfort" - but then I hate myself the next morning!! As a recovering alcoholic, I always heard to keep sugar around b/c that is what my body craves. Instead of wine, the first few months of sobriety, I ate large bags of jelly beans and skittles at night. Then I switched to sugar free jelly bellies and SF jolly ranchers - too many have a yucky side effect in the bathroom - and now I'm off candy. If i REALLY need some sugar, I have a glass or crystal light fruit punch or regular orange juice, but this is my new routine.

I try to eat dinner more mindfully - from setting the table properly to proper table manners (washing up before, "dressing" for dinner even if it means changing my sweat shirt) to cutting and savoring smaller bites. I just read Emily Post's table manners for kids to my daughter and realized I could brush up on a few things. Also, I try to make eye contact with my family and ask them questions about their day and be more caring about them instead of just focusing on my portions and my issues.

After dinner, I clean the entire kitchen so it is "closed" for the night. My partner and our teenagers like to make brownies or bowls of ice cream and I always end up cleaning up after them again, so at least its not mess upon mess.

Once the kitchen is clean, I put the kettle on for hot tea and also prepare the coffee for the morning and set the timer so I wake up to fresh coffee.

If my partner, the kids, and my tv viewing schedule permits it, I do a light 20-minute workout video, wash my face and floss and brush my teeth before getting into my jammies.

Look, I know not everyone need a play-by-play, but this routine and "mindfulness" has stopped my from drinking wine and passing out in the evening, or worse, grazing through the night on whatever I find and waking up feeling bloated and guilty.

When I got sober I couldn't just "STOP" - I had to begin a new way of living. I tried to drink AND be healthy- but for me that was just an oxymoron. My diet and exercise are part of a healthier mind and life. And I relearned a lot of good habits as well as put into practice some theoretical one. (Flossing my teeth EVERY night? Sober or not, does everyone REALLY do that? Now I do...)
