I'm 52 and have struggled with my weight almost all my life. I tried Atkins some years ago, but developed severe cramps and stopped. I was afraid to try again, but I became prediabetic and needed to do something. The low-cal, low fat wasn't working, so Atkins it was. I've found that even from the beginning, I had trouble adding carbs without my weight stalling, so I'm working it very, very slowly. I joined FatSecret after I'd been in Atkins for about 4 weeks, so I actually started at around 185. My high weight, before I started exercising regularly and cutting down on foods, was 215. My blood sugar has dropped to normal levels, and that's the most important thing. I want to be around to torment and tickle my grandkids for a long, long time!

Sleeping aids when mind just can't stop working
I used soy at first, when I started lighting up from the inside. It really helped, but I quit my soy protein smoothies when I found out that it can slow the thyroid down, and there's a family history of that to worry about. I thought that thyroid was the reason for my sluggish weight loss, but the docs say that's okay. If you can handle soy, try that.

As far as the computers and nighttime, there's a program you can download called f.lux that changes the backlighting on your computers to specifically gear it to the day/night lighting for your area. You can get it here: See if that helps. Good luck. Oh, and I find a hot shower before going to bed helps, too. The natural cooling of the body after is an indicator to your brain that it's bedtime. And try moisturizing after the shower...I have dry skin and I found that I slept better when my skin felt better.

Dang Plateaus
I seem to be plateaud again. I'm going to try to get back to writing everything down, though I'm 99% sure I'm not eating too many carbs. It could be too many calories. I grew up in a VERY large family, and getting first and most from the big pot of rice or pasta was not only a form of survival, but might also qualify as an Olympic event. I need to remember I need to eat to sustain life, not sustain life to eat! I miss the full feeling I used to get from those carbs, and I may be trying to recreate it with fat. But my blood sugar is much more under control, and for that I'm grateful to the low carb lifestyle. If it takes me 20 years to get to my goal but I don't go diabetic, it will be worth it.
