We spend a lot of time on here talking about calories, carbs, fat etc. Today I want to talk about sodium. I have had blood pressure issues in the past. Fortunately I was able to get it under control with diet and exercise, no pills. Now it's something I always have to keep in mind, ESPECIALLY when eating out. So today I promised my DD a day of fun and shopping which includes lunch at her favorite restaurant, Pei Wei's Asian Diner. For those of you who haven't heard of it, it's PF Chang's "little brother". Being a responsible eater, I looked up the menu online to plan what I would order so I wouldn't blow my whole days eating. OMG the sodium levels blew my mind. I mean I knew it was bad, but my favorite meal had over 4000 mgs! That's 2-3 DAYS worth for me usually. In one entrée!! I found one entrée that was under 1000 mgs, so that's what I'm having. This is a really popular restaurant, always packed with people and take out orders. I know that ultimately, we are responsible for what we eat and drink everyday, but would it hurt these restaurants to offer some choices that haven't been turned into poison with sodium? I suppose not, as long as people remain unaware or don't care. Let's just pop a pill instead and be done with it. We've become a society of people who accept that diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, heart disease etc, are a natural part of aging. Some of us may be genetically predisposed to a disease and for them, thank goodness there is medication, but the rest of us can fight back by being aware of what we are eating, avoiding the really unhealthy dishes and moving around more. I know, easy for me to say but knowledge really is power, the power to change our future. Let's give it a go, shall we? And maybe, just maybe if enough of us avoid these unhealthy restaurants, hit them where it hurts, some of them might join the future and offer better choices. Ok, rant over. Thanks for reading.

Hello all! I've got plumbing problems today. Makes me want to chew the furniture.... or cookies! Ahhhhh! Don't worry, I won't fall into the cookie jar (which is actually empty right now), but the stress does make me want to stuff my face. Will that ever not be the case? In all honesty, probably not.
I got up early and had a terrific swimming workout for an hour. We had a storm a couple days ago and my son "the pool boy" is out of town so it took me awhile to get all the debris out. While I was doing that I was attacked by fire ants! Those little so and so's! They really hurt! I got in the pool and took a few of them down with me! >:)
I tried something new today. Every morning The first thing I do is drink coffee. Then afterwards when I swam I got terrible acid reflux and of course had to pee. So this morning I drank a half cup of water with a squeeze of lemon and waited till afterwards for my coffee. I still had energy, though part of that might have been the fire ant thing, and no acid reflux! And no getting out of the pool in the middle of a workout to pee! I'd say the experiment was a success. It's good to be flexible sometimes.
I think I'm going to weigh tomorrow even though my "official" day is Monday. I've been plateaued for 3 weeks and I'm getting anxious to see some progress again. I really want to get under 170. It's a big deal for me.
