My name is Randy and I have been overweight since I was around 8 years old. From 7th grade through my senior year in high school I stayed a consistent weight, but that was around 275lbs. After high school I began working part-time and going to college full-time and my weight stayed around the 280lbs range as time went on I changed positions at work to one in an office setting and hit my peak at 292lbs at 5'9".
What made me want to really lose the weight was diabetes. I am not diabetic nor is any of my family, but I have seen many good people that have had a rough fight with the disease three of which have lost limbs and one that has had numerous surgeries trying to save hers.
I had tried diet and exercise in the past and always stuck to the old "calories in vs. calories out = weight loss" ideology, which to an extent I believe still holds true. However I came upon a group online which was touting a low carb high fat diet! I remained skeptical and researched the diet for about a month before I decided I would give it a try without telling any friends or family. It was thanks to that diet that I am at my lowest weight ever and I feel like I will be able to complete this journey of weight loss.
To those that take the time to read this don't feel discouraged not all diets work for everybody, do your research and listen to what your body tells you and find a diet that you and your body are able to cope with. Don't doubt others ways of eating, be willing to try new concepts and you will be successful.
