Low carb vs Low Calorie
big boy wrote..."" I've tried Atkins a long time ago and although it makes sense to go low carb, the sustainability of it relies on being absolutely strict with oneself which most people can do for the 1st month or two but keeping to it is not something everyone can do due to various factors""

what happens with the Atkins approach is most people only know or follow the induction phase..... if you do all 4 phases you end up eating all you can handle and it is sustainable for life, i'm living proof!
You have to learn what carbs you can consume and what effects your body as an individual. For me it's grains, can't deal with them and i'm not gluten intolerant, just find they bloat me and i retain weight, whether its water or whatever this is what happens,

Low carb vs Low Calorie
funny biggergus, you say do one or the other, and I agree for a newbie it's too hard to do both, but that being said, I do both!
I have been a low carber, or a 'no simple carbs' for many years, only veggies and berries and fruits in season.
It's not impossible, it just takes learning and discipline.

Oatmeal sure spiked my blood sugar!
or try true natural steel cut oats instead of Quaker processed oats...

this is in the processed oats
WHOLE GRAIN ROLLED OATS, SUGAR, NATURAL AND ARTIFICIAL FLAVOR, SALT, CALCIUM CARBONATE, GUAR GUM, CARAMEL COLOR, NIACINAMIDE*, REDUCED IRON, VITAMIN A PALMITATE, PYRIDOXINE HYDROCHLORIDE*, RIBOFLAVIN*, THIAMIN MONONITRATE*, FOLIC ACID*.

notice that sugar is the second ingredient !!!Shock artificial flavours, yuk!

If you don't have the time to do the 45 minutes to cook the original steel cut oats try to find this

Low carb vs Low Calorie
gotcha, and yes , agreed, I just looked at the profile and didn't see anything about the 5:2 eating plan which I agree,, is a good one.
I still say cut out or cut down on processed no matter what eating plan you go with. Getting healthy is for life and weight loss is the best side effect.
