My name is John; I am 60 years old, husband, father of three, grandfather of five. I have probably lost the equivalent of my body weight over the years (and, of course, gained it all back). I can lose weight, but have historically been horrible at maintenance once I meet my goal weight. I first tried Atkins about 14 years ago; six years ago it was LA Weight Loss. I started my current weight loss effort using Weight Watchers in January of 2013, but switched over to calorie counting, as I found it easier (and more in line with the tools on this website). Using this website and increasing my activity has allowed me to lose over 60 lbs. I have been maintaining for just over a year and a half as of 2/23/15. I don't ever say I am "dieting"; instead, I am just trying to live a healthy lifestyle. I indulge occasionally, but get right back with the program.

For those of you following Weight Watchers and using Fat Secret...
Hi Robyn - I joined Fatsecret a little over two years ago. At the time I was doing Weight Watchers, and for several months I did "double entry" - put my food into the log here and also a spreadsheet I had built to calculate WW points. After a couple of months I found that, if I stayed below my RDI here on this site I was never going over my WW point limit. So, to make things easier I stopped the double entry and just used this site. This works for me, but you can see from the conversations on this site there is not a universal way of eating that works for everyone. Good luck!

Reminder
On the website, click on "My Fatsecret". Look on the right hand side of the screen down a bit and you will see "My Settings" - click on that and scroll down to notifications. You can turn them off there.

how to maintain a fixed weight
From people more experienced on the site that I am, I heard consistent advice: eat less, move more and use the tools on the site to track food and activities. I have been maintaining my weight now for about a year and a half using that advice.
