Southern girl who was raised being told that I had to finish my plate. Well I kept finishing my plate and then some. I'm trying to break bad habits and learn good ones. :)

When I started this I was at the same weight as when I was 9 months pregnant with my almost 6 year old daughter. My mom died recently from years of poor health and suddenly I had high blood pressure. All of these things were the catalyst needed to make me get off my duff and lose some weight.

I have an excellent support system and my life is filled with motivators.

Stuck in plateau...
I've lost about 87 pounds but it seems each week is harder and harder to get more weight off. Everyone has ideas as to why I gained this week and have been in plateau but I just can't seem to shake out of it.
I've lowered my intake then lowered again, I started jogging and actually ran my first race last weekend. My instructor just told me that considering I workout about 8-10 hours a week that I should be eating more. So I've recently increased my intake again and we'll see where this leads. I'm not giving up by any means I'm just a bit frustrated as to why the pounds are coming off as fast as they once were. I know I've lost a lot of weight in 10 months but I still have more to lose so my body needs to get back on track. I don't know if am asking or advice or just venting.... but there you have my readers digest version of my life since last June.

Hopefull dieter
I went to the doctor in June and discovered my actual weight, I was embarassed, shocked and depressed. Then I got into the exam room and found out my blood pressure was dangerously high. My mother died in April and she lived her life very unhealthily, she was only 55. I don't want to die young. I want to be a good example for my daughter. I kinda feel like June 24th was my "hit bottom" date. I have been completely dedicated to working out and eating right since then. I eat well rounded meals and exercise a lot. I've found that I don't want to cheat bc I reward myself with healthy and sometimes unhealthy treats. I've lost 33 pounds since June and I feel great. I have about a 100 pounds (or more) to go but it's working, it really is working!!! Smile
Tips that I've discovered to help me stay motivated:
1. Talking about fitness and healthy eating with friends, families, strangers. People often have great tips and your friends and family are the best motivators.
2. I drink lots of water, I keep a large reusable bottle with me at all times and I know if I drink two of them that makes 64oz. (I try for 3 usually) If you don't like water add a package of Emergen-C to the water, just a few calories and some flavor with vitamins.
3. I keep fruit, natural unsalted nuts, granola bars or other healthy snacks in my purse. It helps fight off the urge to hit a drive-thru.
4. I eat every 2 to 3 hours. I eat slowly and make the portions small. I bought a food scale to weigh my meat.
5. I try to diversify my workouts, I do my elliptical (bought a smaller version (used) at a store for $150) everyday and I add a second workout Mon-Fri for example: walking, zumba and conditioning.
6. I feel like I haven't cheated on my diet yet is bc I allow myself a splurge (most of the time within my calories) once a week of whatever I desire. So if you want a piece of chocolate, have a small piece but keep track of the calories and don't make it a daily event.

Sorry for rambling. I just feel really motivated and I know if I can do this, anyone can. Smile
I've never lost this much weight before. I have A LOT more to go but I'm not discouraged. Smile
