Current Weight:(13 Sep 14) 212.4 lb
Goal Weight:200.5 lb
following: Atkins
performance: losing 1.4 lb a week

I've been overweight (or to be clinically correct, obese) for 20+ years, slowly gaining. Scroll down to the middle of this page to see some before and during pictures. I have many more before and present pictures out on my personal site also.

I have lost 80 pounds on Atkins, reached my goal then went off completely rather than doing the levels to add carbs back into my diet. In fact, what I did add back in was everything under the sun made out of sugar or wheat. I tried low fat high energy for the past month and gained an extra 15 pounds from there and stand at 200 again.

I don't lose pounds, I lose body fat percentage. I set my Fat Secret pounds goals to what I believe would match the fat % goals.

As a kid, my mom used to give me a cookie for doing or being good. I have kept up that type of reward until I started this WLJ journey. It wasn't until just not many pounds ago, I've learned that the real reward has come since I don't put the cookie in my mouth. Postscript, mom, not aimed toward you, it was an analogy and I love you very much!

Have you lost weight on Atkins without exercise?
While doing Atkins, know that they recommend you do not exercise during Induction. (Atkins Induction is not the same as what FatSecret calls Induction. I'm talking your first two to three weeks of starting Atkins) Then when you do start exercising start something slow and easy and work your way up.

Now nutrients wise, make sure you are getting plenty of salt, either from table salt you cook with or drinking chicken broth. Also make sure you get your potassium, calcium and magnesium in vitamin supplements with absolutely no iron in them. These are needed for possible muscle cramps due to what you're not getting in the daily foods ya put in your mouth. As with any exercise drink plenty of water, a good equation is one ounce a day for every two pounds body weight.

And now to actually answer your question ;^ )

I did not start working out until about 10 pounds lost ago or about 60 down. That's starting Atkins in April, starting the work outs in about February. And since I have started working out, the weight loss is 'very' slow even though I am not seeing the muscle percentage go up very quickly at all. This may just be because I am pretty close to my end goal fat percent, simple coincidence, Atkins way of eating burning muscle or just too many Carbsmart ice cream bars, I don't know, this is new to me and I'm learning as I go.

And as fine print always goes, talk to your Dr. about it. Mine is very excited and behind me all the way on Atkins even if I don't work out. As she puts it, because I have already planned on following the phases correctly if I exercise or not. ~tig

Ho Hum...
I wrote an email and got a response back very quickly stating that in this time of year, the recipe submissions were substantial and they would be getting to them when they could. I have also had to write to them for issues my bio was having and they responded and fixed it very quickly. I really can't complain because of how quick they are on issues other than my recipe submission, the site is always fast, and up and works well. I didn't even mention that it's not the only recipe hanging in limbo, I have three total out there ;^ ) ~tig
