I'm a former runner who was sidelined after a marathon. I had 2 back surgeries, the second being a spinal fusion (L4, L5, S1). I gained weight during my recovery. Since then I have yo-yo'd my way along and I'm not happy with my current weight.

I love to ride my bicycle and walk/jog for exercise in addition to some wii fit and other games indoors.

This is the first "diet" that I have ever been on in my life and it will be a challenge for me. I've never set out to do something that I haven't completed and this isn't going to be the first!

I reached my goal weight of 160 lbs on 5/24/2010. The task at hand now is to keep up with my lifestyle changes and to continue to reshape and tone my body.

Not your average walk in the park...
Bears can be really nice. I used to work at a small zoo and I took care of the bears. Nothing like climbing in a cage with 7 of them at the same time! What a rush......until you have to scoop the poop everyday.

Here is a picture from many moons ago!

Where are you?
I'm in Nicholson, GA. About an hour northeast of Atlanta. We have one traffic light and one gas station (with attached Subway).

I currently have 30 goats, 3 dogs, a cat, and a tarantula on 64 gently rolling acres. There may not be a bunch to do in town, but there is plenty of space to do it!

Get ready for the future
Hey Jesse,

I knew that the cattle were a form of selection, but this seems like a little more than selecting the best cattle. It goes right along with selection of turkeys with large breasts to the point where they can't walk anymore. This is the earliest form of genetic modification. This mutation wasn't inserted, but it was perpetuated.

I unnaturally select in my herd every breeding, but my goal is to make the best all around goat possible. Not the biggest, not the meatiest. The best shape, lack of disease, and temperament all play into the decision.

Personally, I think selection based on any one characteristic is short sighted and will only lead to problems down the road.

About the list, I agree that it is shocking. I went to a local farmers market recently (I try and go every week). This gentleman had some nice looking white corn. I asked if it was Silver Queen, a particularly good variety. He told me, " Nope, this is better. It's Bt Corn." Wow, even the GM corn had made it to my local roadside market. Sad.
