After trying and failing at just about every diet under the sun, I think I've finally got it right. I'm not there yet, but I'm moving in the direction of a whole food plant based diet - so vegan, but cutting out the processed food as well. I haven't completely cut out everything yet, right now I'm having dairy only as a special treat and trying to eat fish maybe once a week or once a month. I don't know if I'll ever become completely vegan, but I seem to be heading in that direction and I feel so much healthier now and the weight seems to be falling off. I'm also not as hungry as I was on other diets. I am often way under my RDI and not hungry whereas before I was clinging to every last calorie. If anyone is interested in moving to a healthy plant based diet or is curious about the links between animal products and health issues such as heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and others I would suggest reading "In Defense of Food" by Michael Pollan and watching the documentary "Forks over Knives."
A little more about me:
I'm a teacher, or at least trying to become one. I have a Masters in Teaching and I'm licensed, but there aren't many social studies jobs in M.A. so right now I'm working as a sub.
I am genderqueer and bi, so is my spouse. We have two dogs who bring so much joy to our lives. I'm also Jewish and getting more and more involved with my temple community. That's me I guess.
Cheers :)
