Basically I am a college graduate with two bachelor's and one master's degree who is applying to medical school for 2010. I'm currently not working and I love it. I'm married to an officer in the US Air Force. We have two moody cats and a sweet chocolate lab.
I used to run marathons, but have been a little gun-shy since I ran the Kentucky Derby Marathon in 2007 (WORST MARATHON EVER!!!). I was almost run over by a car on the race course. Thanks a lot Louisville Police Department. You suck. Especially the cop who stood there and watched it happen instead of stopping the traffic as we approached the intersection. Jackass.
I'd like to start training again, but I want to get a little weight off first. It's difficult to train for a marathon and lose weight at the same time because you have to eat to fuel your muscles. Cutting calories just hurts your training and sets you up for potential injuries. So I'm doing some cross training (spinning, yoga, P90X, and whatever else suits my mood for the day) and some running, but I'm not going to actively train until I can get back down to my marathon weight of about 140 (I'm 5'9").
I also need to rebuild the muscle tone I've lost since my days on the dance team in college. So I'm also going to focus on a lot more strength training than I normally would. My goal is to get back into marathon shape by the end of the year so I can start training after New Years.
