Goal Weight:125.0 lb
following: arr1972's own diet
performance: losing 0.3 lb a week

I am a 41 year old mother of two toddlers (one is 4 in february and the other just turned 2). Eighteen months ago I was 205. Two bed rest pregnancies were very hard on my body. I needed to get healthy again and get in shape to keep up with the rat race which is my life. I started working out and watching what I ate and now I'm down to the last 15 lbs or so. My goal is to keep losing through the holidays and get to my goal weight of 125 by my first son's fourth birthday.

Christmas! How are you celebrating it?
Just because it is Christmas doesn't mean we should feel the need to eat three plates of food instead of one or polish off a whole plate of baking just because it is there. I didn't bake this Christmas since my kids are young and don't need it, my husband would rather eat meat and I most certainly don't need it. I intend to keep my workout schedule since i work out early morning at home and have no excuses. I'll only feel guilty and gutted if I go nuts. As Glaun said what do we do at the next holiday or evet...before you know it you never feel happy with your weight because you sabotage all your hard work. A glass of wine at dinner, a plate piled high with veg and protein will keep the starch away and a small piece of dessert will keep me at or below my maintenance level and on track to finally get to my goal. So sick of losing the same 10lbs over and over again just because of special occasions.

Avocado Puree for your child's health and first food
Both my boys had banana mashed with avocado as one of their first foods. They both had full sets of teeth by 11 months so I blessedly only had to do purées for a short time. We go through a dozen avocados a week now ....dips for their
Veggies and spreads for sandwiches instead of mayo.

Concerned
My sister in law sounds exactly like you. She had thyroid cancer and removal of her thyroid. She follows my diet now and both her and my brother are losing weight. Together they've lost 200lbs in 2013. In addition to calorie counting i watch my percentage of macros. I have (or had) a sluggish thyroid and was told i wasn't getting enough protein. I basically have 30-35% of my calories from protein, 45-50% from healthy fats and 15-25 % carb (for me these are unrefined.....fruits and veg only). 90% of the time my food only has one ingredient...if it comes in a box, bag or can i leave it at the store. Means a lot more work in the kitchen which my sister in law was unaccustomed to but after 2 weeks and a 10lb drop seemingly with no effort she decided to make a significant change which also included exercise. You'll get there, you just have to see what works for you...analyze what you are doing now (which is not working) and change your macros percentage and see what happens. Just don't give up on yourself! 16 months ago i was 210 and only 5 foot 3

How to tackle comfort eating
I don't keep ANY comfort foods in the house. My husband and I rid all the cupboards, pantry and freezer of the "go to" comfort/snacking/just all around bad for you snacks.
If we want a treat.....we have it when we go out or we make a plan to have some for say a movie night at home with the kids but there is none left for the next day. Since I would have to pack up two toddlers in the middle of winter to go get the bad stuff...I have plenty of time to find something more nutritious or boil a pot of water for some tea. I find without it around I don't have cravings. My husband does not and never has had a weight issue and since he lacks a sweet tooth, except once every couple months, it was easy to get him on board.

What time do you work out?
5 am weekdays and 6 am weekends. With small children there is no such thing as sleeping in anyway so out of necessity i became a morning person. It is so much easier in the spring and summer but it is routine now and i wake without an alarm most mornings.
