Never in a million years would I have thought I would be embarking on this journey. If someone would have told me 3 years ago that I would be soon following the path to eating Paleo, I would have said they are nuts. (Pun intended)

Over the past 4 years my health has begun to rapidly deteriorate. I have gained almost 200lbs since meeting my husband 5 years ago. Now at 404.5lbs, I have cysts on my Adrenal gland, cysts in my lymph nodes, polycystic kidney disease, a hiatal hernia, severe asthma, heart palpitations, Hashimoto's and (recently discovered) MTHFR gene mutation. The Dr. said to stay away from Gluten and Dairy. According to my research, my body cannot process any chemicals or anything synthetic due to the MTHFR gene mutation.

My wonderful husband & I decided to try Vegan before the newest hospital stay. We had done well for 3 weeks, then I crashed and went to the hospital. I had felt better and lighter but not amazing. We had discovered all the "fake" meats and continued cooking to our hearts content. My only real loss was cheese. I craved it so bad and the vegan version was just not cutting it. After being released from the hospital we went to Jack In The Box. Seriously?!?!?! :-( For the last year we have eaten whatever we want (rarely at home) having the "intention" of starting back to dieting on "Monday". Monday would come and go and we didn't start, using every excuse in the book.

We now feel the best path for us is Paleo and everything is starting to make sense. If we want to live we MUST eat foods that have life in them (veggies and fruit) and foods that have no GMO's or anything unhealthy! Why would I continue to pay to be poisoned!!!! We are so excited to begin this journey knowing this time it is not a "diet" but rather our new Lifestyle. :-)

I hope to get the hang of only eating fruits, veggitables and GOOD meat (hopefully hunting our own meat soon), as I am ready to become The Real Shauna I was meant to be!

Starting Paleo on Tuesday
After the July 4th holiday. My fiance' found out about this diet and we are so excited. We have to do some "Kitchen Clean up/out" this weekend and do some healthy shopping for once. What do we do? What is the best way to start? I had a hard time finding significant weightloss stories with Paleo, anyone have a testimony or can point me in the right direction to find some? Since we both have significant weight to lose, it would be nice to talk to others that have done it with Paleo.
Also we have young children to feed. Ideas on transitioning them away from Cheez-its and Doritoes? We share custody & the other parent is not on the same page necessarily.... ideas?
Happy to hear tips/ tricks/ receipes and support.
