How to set up a workout program?
I am working with a trainer and this is what I was given:

Mon: 30-40 min of strength training followed by 20 min cardio (the strength first puts your body in fat burning mode before you do cardio so your automatically burning fat when you start the cardio so you can get away with less time)

Tues: 40-50 min of cardio (this can be all on one thing or broken up which is what I like to do. for instance I will do 20 min on Elliptical keeping my heart rate around 147 (I am 3Cool then do 3 sets of 3 reps each of something calisthenics like Spiderman planks/Sumo Squats/kettlebell swings, or push up to side plank/modified Sit Throughs/alternating jumping leg switch for 30-45 sec for each exercise) then followed by 20 min of stationary bike.

Wed: 30-40 min of strength training followed by 20 min cardio

Thurs: 40-50 min of cardio (this can be all on one thing or broken up)

Fri: I do some weights on major muscle groups then body weight exercises (planks, push ups, pull ups, squats of various kinds, lunges of all sorts, etc) followed by 20-30 min of cardio.

Sat/Sun off or family walks

The other routine I do (I switch back and forth) is:
Mon: I do drills and circut training (like football players do alot of foot work but gets your heart rate up quick then drops it back down so your body burning longer. then circut of exercise bands for biceps, triceps, rows, sit ups, leg scissor kicks and jump squats)takes about 40-45 min

Tue: upper body to fatigue with weights then 20-30 min cardio

Wed: lower body to fatigue with weights then 20-30 min cardio

Thurs: 40-50 min just cardio like the last routine

Fri: upper body to fatigue with weights then 20-30 min cardio

Sat: lower body to fatigue with weights then 20-30 min cardio

Sunday rest

I weigh 250ish# and I keep my diet around 1850 cals a day and I have lost 25# in 3 months, not fast but I have gained a good deal of muscle in that time also. I am starting to see the results in my clothes and i just generally feel better. I also watch my white carb intake, i try to limit those to 1 meal a day but don't worry to much if it's more. Hope it helps some, I work full time and have 2 kids and am married so I know all the excuses for being overweight, that is why i am doing what works for me and if the weight comes off slower but is coming off I am good with that!

Hi, I have PCOS also and let me tell you, after being on Atkins for 3 weeks I am feeling so much better. I am not bloated all the time and I don't feel like I am going to shut down after I eat a meal. If you haven't already, read up on Insulin Resistance and see if you also have those syptoms and if you do consider a better carb lifestyle. feel free to ask me anything!
