Born 1951, 5'10", I'm an information systems professor. In June 2010 I set out to get down to 169 by my 60th birthday in September 2011, which I did. Why 169? I like the sound of being in the 160's, it was 45 pounds lost which is nice round number, and besides, I graduated from high school in '69!
I've gained back most (but not all!) of that weight, and I now have a new goal to get back down to that weight ONE YEAR BEFORE I retire (May 2016), and then KEEP IT OFF for a full year, which will be when I retire (2017). Additionally, I want to have a 5-day-a-week exercise habit solidly in place at least 6 months before I retire.
I am tying all this to retirement because I feel quite uncertain about what I will do with myself in retirement, and this allows me to approach it at the top of my game.
