Goal Weight:135.0 lb
following: Atkins
performance: losing 2.3 lb a week

Hi I am new to this website and found it by way of the Atkins site. I have some weight to lose and it would be nice to have a support group even if it is a cyber one :)
I am 56 and have two grown kiddos and one 13 yr old grandson. I work seasonally and am lucky to live in a rural area. Plenty of peace and quiet here
I am an avid knitter/crocheter/bookworm. Used to paint and work with clay and do all sorts of stuff that I seem to have put by for knitting. I am going to learn to spin too! :) So as you can see I sit waaaaaaaaaaaay too much.
I was very successful on the Atkins diet (Diet Revolution) 10 years ago and lost 82 lbs. But in the past 4 years or so it snuck up on me I am afraid. SO her I am looking at Square One again. I know I can do this but I would rather wake up and find it disappeared in the night. Oh well. Carbs are my downfall and I don't mean pasta which I do not eat often. I mean junk/refined/trash/food and breads and baked goods (mine).

I want to be healthy and I don't want to leave this life sooner than I have to so I am losing this weight!!! And it is not coming back again.

Induction should be 65% Fat, 30% Protein, & 5% Net Carbs ~~ I am adding this here so I will remember it! Thanks RaRa!

Seclic I agree with Mummy dee I think. You don't have much to lose and that tends to be a slower loss sometimes. You can still stay away from overly processed foods and sugars without making a diet regime out of it. I have a book that I find very helpful.Low Carb Dieting for Dummies (lol)it has excellent info, food lists, recipes whatever. Written by a Professor of Nutrition at a University in Texas. Maybe you can get your local library to order it for you if they don't have a copy.

The thing I noticed about your food diary is the carb counts on some foods. For instance you had 1 serving of cheddar cheese that had some carbs. Not a lot but I stick to cheese that has 0 carbs. Your dressings 3.07 and 4.00 carbs per what ever serving you are using. I have come to use either olive oil and rice vinegar mixed (you have to look at the label to find the no carb rive vinegar)and olive oil is a good for you fat. You CANNOT eat any fruit during induction.Your sodium is high-ish I don't know if that is from processed foods like the Philly Steak meat or the dressings but I do try to stay away from processed stuff as much as possible. Because I try to keep sodium down but that is hard. The Atkins bars don't bother me but they do stall some people so be wary of those. It looks like your meats are often the pre packaged kind?? Like the sausage patties...I mention this because you need to be a label reader to know what you are actually getting. There is a lot of convenience food out there and most of it has added sugars etc and that will screw you up if you are trying to do Atkins Induction. Everything you buy check the carb count and the fiber grams. When I buy Deli cheeses I ask them to give me the count for carbs. So my favorite cheese went home with my daughter because I don't feel like losing 2 carbs to one piece of cheese. Smile WATER! I can not push that enough. Some days you hardly seem to eat anything at all so your body isn't going to want to give it up. I don't know if you have an Atkins book but you really need one. I use the "Old" Atkins diet because the new one isn't as successful for me. Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution ( I think 1992 was original release date). I have lost weight and felt great using Atkins. The ONLY reason I have to reuse it is because I fall into the things I should not eat. Sweets etc. But you can do this! Don't get discourages and give up. I weighed 205 a year ago and by last fall I was 135 lbs. This past winter I was so bored and discouraged and depressed with snow snow snow I didn't realize I was eating as much bad food as I was sticking in my face. So now I have 20 lbs to lose. Some of which is already gone. Very Happy You can do this!

Almost complete loss of appetite?
I experienced much the same thing several years ago when I had been on a low carb diet for about 5 months or so. I seemed to have no capacity for food anymore, however, I did only eat when I was actually hungry. The appetite and cravings were gone. I really think my stomach shrunk to microscopic size haha. My food consumption did even out eventually but you have to make sure you are getting enough food every day. I went way below my weight goal because I just didn't feel like eating. I don't know what your exercise regime is but I have read and heard that extreme exercise will deaden appetite also.

Lovealark if you are following Atkins make sure your diet calculator here is set to 'net carbs' not just carbs. Also make sure your fats are where they should be and your protein. I just looked at your food diary and I noticed today you have had candy or velveeta cheese. I super love velveeta and super love candy but you can't have it during induction at all. In a way you are eating less than 20 net carbs but if part of that is candy (even if it is one piece) and that is what messes with your Ketosis and glucose register. It doesn't take much for some people to lose that edge. Are you following the New Atkins? I use the old version Diet Revolution and it has always worked well for me. You need more veggies too. And water lots and lots of water. Make sure you get it in. I also drink quite a bit of good herb tea. I use a lot of olive oil, mayo and butter (not margarine)too, In fact I rarely used salad dressing but substituted mayo and actually liked it. Don't trust to the food to have enough good fats in it you really need to add it yourself. Breaded food is not good right now either so even if a cheese stick is okay because it's cheese the coating on it isn't. And of course I gained a little over the winter so I am starting here again on Tuesday before it gets the better of me Smile

Could Atkins Bars make me gain?
I have never had a problem using the bars myself but I don't usually eat it as a meal, all at once, I slice bits of it off all day. Like eating chocolates. LOL. I only buy the Chocolate Peanut butter bars at 2 net carbs too. I doubt that the way I eat them really matters but I use them from induction on. It is better to use real food as cakebaker says however my downfall is and will always be sweets. So I find the bars helpful in the craving category. I am back here again because I gained over the winter but my food diary is open to everyone (I think) you are welcome to look at how I do it my way Smile I wont be weighing in for a couple oif days yet but am starting fresh again then.
