Hi all, thought it was time I shared a little info. I'm 47, 5'5", married and have two teenagers, 17 and 15. I have always been really good at losing weight but unfortunately when I get there I don't seem to be very good at keeping it off. What seems like a tiny bit of overeating and a pound or two goes back on each month, it soon adds up. There has always been a correlation between my weight and how much exercise I do so this time I am trying to get myself strong and fit in addition to losing weight. Since Jan I have been going to "bootcamp", a military style circuits class, 3 times a week. It is outdoors and I love it. I also play tennis and a bit of racketball. I want to see if I can get superfit- if I can do it then anyone can. As of 28th Feb 2016 I can almost do a proper press up. Would love to be able to "crank them out". Ha, how life changes, never thought doing a few press ups would be living the dream. Good luck to you all. This journey is a long one but tiny steps make all the difference

Belly fat over 50
I read "Burn the fat, feed the muscle" by Tom Venuto. It is a bit of a self help approach to fitness but has some great advice and programs to work to. It has been very successful for me - might be worth a look.

Long Term Permannent success is Possible
Philmck - the words "foolish", "stupid", "small minded" and "choking on your own advice" when responding to someone's opinion struck me as a little negative.

Long Term Permannent success is Possible
Spacey48. It is a shame that this string has become so negative. What you have given out is a selection of useful and realistic tips for those who want to adopt a healthy lifestyle whilst accepting that sometimes in life there are times when it is ok for whatever reason to indulge and sometimes overindulge. Total avoidance is not the key to sustained weight loss or maintenance. Long term (i.e. 10, 20 years or more) includes the occasional treat for most of us. Whilst some people can be evangelical in the early years of dramatic weight loss there are very few that can adopt that lifestyle on a permanent basis. Well done for sharing your honest opinion.

How to ensure no muscle loss in Atkins

Will consider your suggestion, currently i am doing brisk walk for 45 min on daily basis

In that case is there any possibility that you can incorporate any uphill sections on your walks. I think this adds resistance and will increase muscle strength.

How to ensure no muscle loss in Atkins
You need to lift weights - I do a class at my gym called body pump which is weightlifting to music. It s amazing what a difference it has made. Though not on Atkins I am sure all my weight loss is fat not muscle.
